I don't know - even if sailing I'd rather flat calm than F8's and large seas! Depends how far you're going I guess - I don't mind motoring if day sailing, but don't really enjoy motoring if on a 24 hour + passage.

Given the prevailing SW along the south coast, we often end up motoring one way and sailing the other. Last time we did Poole -> Scilly we motored most of the way there into F7's on the nose, and then motored home in flat clam seas with zero wind...!

You're a heathen! Would have been more comfortable and probably quicker to have tacked your way to the Scillies!

An equal focus on drinking and sailing. Heading to Fowey 2 nights, then Newton Ferrers for one. As long as we get a few hours sail I'd rather have sun. Main focus is no kids!! Lads trip. ;-)

Not with the wind in that direction on this boat (an Ovni). It's okay, but not the best windward performer, and it motors so well it's a darn sight easier to motor directly to windward! Maybe I'm just a lazy sailor as well...

Having motored Poole to Salcombe this July, we did then sail the entire passage down to Vannes and the Golfe du Morbihan, which was very good.

Whatever you do, have fun and stay safe. It's just great to be out on the water when the sun's shining which is exactly where I intend to be tomorrow, launching from Chris's place about noon. Woooooohooooo!

"tag team with your wife for 10mins" - she wont be happy with 10 mins. Corsicans are quite demanding

Two for now buddy. The big one's not a realistic proposition to beach launch or manhandle on my own up in Scotland on this forthcoming trip oooop norf and I want to keep Lynn interested in ribbing, not stood in the water up to her wotsits trying to hold the ar$e end of a big rib in the tide, whilst I try and winch it onto the trailer, etc.

Provided the weather plays ball we're doing the wild bits of the Western Isles this month, not slipway launching and recovering at marinas, so we'll take the SR with us on this trip. To be honest I love the boat and it's difficult to imagine more smiles per mile but I've bought the bigger one to provide a bit more comfort for the Leader of the Opposition when at anchor and to bring some longer trips into the equation for which I'd need radar/want AIS, more range, more speed available in bigger seas and a degree more comfort underway on longer journeys etc, etc. Weekend running to the Isle of Man, Dublin, etc are on the 'to do' list next year.

I also need a project each winter to keep the lights in the man cave burning so for the time being, two boats, but I can see the SR going once I've got the big one sorted to be honest.
