International RIB raid 2010

I only found out about this event late on Thursday night did a search on google and found the website www.ribraid.com it is a fun event going from Donaghadee to Portpatrick then back to Donaghadee. I was amazed this event hadn't been mentioned on here after a search it has been spoken about in previous years but not 2009 or 10.

I phoned the number on ribraid.com website to find out soem more about the event, in the end up Gail and Marty 2 of the orgainisers came over to Portpatrick in the Redbay 7.4 of Carl and Paula to meet us and escort us back across to Donaghadee where we spent the night.

On the sunday morning registration for the event was at Pier 36 Pub, Resuarant and Hotel where we got breakfast a saftey briefing then out to the boats to do a lap round Donaghadee Harbour then head off for Portpatrick over 30 ribs lead by the Lifeboat for the first mile or so. We were then meet at by the Portpatrick Lifeboat and lead into Portpatrick Harbour where everyone tied up and went for a few sociable drinks before leaving to go back to Donaghadee at 5.30 for a bbq again at Pier 36, unfortunatly i could take the time to go back over on the Sunday night and had to return home, but i will be more orgainsed for next year and will go back over for the Sunday night.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Gail, Marty, Carl and Paula for coming over to Portpatrick on the Saturday to meet us and for organising such a good event.

You can find more info on this event at www.ribraid.com i would highly recommend it to anyone.

I will post some pictures below but to view all pictures and videos click link below

I know that tonymac is a big fan. Certainly you never hear much about it on RIBnet, possibly as it seems to be a quasi commercial operation and we're generally Down With That Sort of Thing on here

They're a kind of Parallel Ribbing Universe

Thats due to the fact that the quieter its kept the better. Mention free whiskey and all the hoi polloi will be there.

The downside is that the times I've been, I've had to go in a R****y.

Wee lie-down after the free whiskey

Still, it's refreshing to find a RIBnetter who can even spell Whiskey, never mind hold it

I thought it was just like Irn Bru and Iron Brew - both drinks exist - just one version is nicer than the other....

The Tunnocks factory is in Coatbridge, is this not closer to you? or do you mean the other Barr, AG Barr?
Anyway I thought the proper name for whiskey was flavoured cats pee?

Anyway its not hard to convert the southerners. two work for me and after a couple of years being indoctrinated by the rest of the staff they now curse the soft southern shandy drinkers at every opportunity, newly converted and all that...........

Ai think you will find, Mr Bigwuss, that if you peruse the thread one more time with your glass eye in the right way up, you will find that it was one DM that started the whole thing. He's good

I thought Jonathon had the Raid nicely covered anyway...

Is it not out that way somewhere? I can remember working building a new John Menzies warehouse about 20 years ago and the factory was in the main street.
Its certainly out the East end somewhere...........

OK just checked its in Uddingston and that now rings a bell. Remember I am from the Southside rather than the east end............

Yes Willk I am indeed a fan. Their Halloween cruise is great! (see previous posts for photos).

I joined them for a "Raid' in Lough Neagh a few years ago but missed last year's one - its for charity - the Lough Neagh Rescue team.

I have not been on any of the other trips though as the second part of your comment fits them well.

We went to Ribraid in 2004 before we moved to Canada. Have to say we were made incredibly welcome by Gail et. al. We didn't have a boat and were able to get rides for all legs of the events. It's a long way to go from the Sarf of England (or the East where we lived) but worth it IMHO. If taking your own boat it'd be nice to do as part of a week or more of cruising on the Scottish West Coast / NI East Coast.
