Interesting book

Hello

I've just been reading a very interesting little book about lighthouses. We all see them from a distance, but what about their history, when was a particular lighthouse built, how was it built and why?

Well this book tells you all.

It is called (would you believe) 'Lighthouses' and was written by Lynn F Pearson. It is published by Shire books.

Take a look at their maritime section. They have some real gems. For example the history of anchors.

Great reading for the winter months.

Pentland Warrior

Keith

So where does the Pentland warrior name come from.

I used to live in Mid Lothian (Horrible Place) and that was on the pentlands. Do you Rib there ????

Hi Biggles

My little boat is a 'Quicksilver'. As the make is written on the side, that's what I used to call it (it saved me writing another name).

However after crossing The Pentland Firth in it this summer I renamed it 'Pentland Warrior'.

See this thread.

Also read my article on the expedition in the next issue of RIB International magazine.
