Insurance Q: 'Design speed' of an old Avon Sportboat

Hi,

I'm just trying to sort out insurance on my Avon S250 3.2 metre Sportboat, and am stumped on one question - the form asks what the 'maximum design speed' of the boat is, and specifically whether it is above 17 knots.

Anyone any thoughts? I'm running it with a 9.9 HP engine, though I assume this is irrelevant to the 'design' speed.

Cheers

Chris

I would put yes its under 17kts. My honda 3.8 with a 20 on only did about 18 so i would guess you be being honest.

To be honest I think you'll be wearing brown trousers if you make over 17 knots in anything but flat calm water anyway-Sixy's Zodiac was scary at that speed.

17knots seems to be the speed at which boats change category for insurance purposes. There will be various exclusions for boats capable of above that speed.

Unless your boat has a maximum speed rating and you can exceed that, then;
Maximum design speed = your maximum speed.
