Insurance company recommendations please

We are just about to take delivery of our new RIB, and would be grateful for any comments (good or bad ) about who to use (or not) for insurance.

I have insured my sailing boat with GJW before, and have found them to be a great company, but I don't know yet whether they insure RIBs.

Someone who handles claims well and does not try to wriggle out of everything is more important to me than saving £50 a year!

I am still fighting with Norwich Union over the theft of my Scorpion a year ago. They wriggled on a technicality.

A lot of my customers are with Mardon, and seem to say good things about them!

I was with Bishop Skinner, and I found them to be really good. They paid the one theft claim I had to make no questions. They also offer a discount if you are an RYA Member or an RNLI Offshore member.

Nav and Gen seem very cheap compared to many others. I've skimmed through the policy summary and it seems similar to many others, but are you aware of anything that they obviously don't cover that others do? Have you ever had to make a claim with them?

I use AXA,

I had a total loss a few years ago any they paid up in full within a month with no trying to wriggle out of anything.

Another way is to get a quote from insurance brokers like http://www.oneshopinsurance.com They can surely help you decide which insurance company is best for your insurance needs. I was amazed with the premiums I was quoted on. The entire quote was automated, simple questions and straight forward answers.

Never had to make a claim, but know a lot of the guys down there and they're all top notch.
Not aware of any holes in coverage.
Have a chat to them if you've any queries.

Whatever company you choose make sure you thoroughly read the small print (sorry if that sounds like a really obvious statement). I wanted cover for the boat if it was anchored / moored / tied up with nobody on board and some do / some don't offer this (none offer it if boat is under 5m length). Ultimately I went with Noblemarine (underwritten by Norwitch Union - I'm interested in Rogue Wave's comment about NU failing to pay up!).

Same here. Some companies don't cover you for theft if the boat is left unatended. Duh! Why would I need theft cover if I never leave the boat? So I switched to Noblemarine/Norwich Union believing the policy was better than others and Norwich Union would be good payers...
