Well I have spoken with Scorpian this morning and it seems that a mere 35k will not get me to the table!!!

I guess that means looking at other manufacturers new boats or second hand Scorpians. If any of you forum members hear of a suitable pre owned Scorpian for sale I would welcome a message from you.

Thanks

Ollie

What would 35K get you...bows and an anchor locker ?

If I may offer you some advice, wait another 6 weeks and there will be stacks of boats on the market. Take your time and try 'em out. See what YOU like, what feels solid and what gives you confidence, what will be suitable for YOUR requirements. You will also see different layouts and setups, again see what suits YOU.

Scorpion do make an excellent boat but they are not the only game in town. Ribcraft owners enthuse about the seaworthiness and durability of their boats. The Ribtec hull has excellent seakeeping qualities. Redbay have their fans as do a number of other makes.

With 35K to spend, most of the world is your oyster.

I totally agree with this advice, which is similar to the advice given by Richard earlier, but I would also do some research on the forums here by doing some searches on particular RIB makes to see how well the boats are looking/holding up after a couple of seasons' use. For the same reason, I would try to get out on older RIBs as well as the shiny new demonstrators.

Regarding the 'Round Britain' ambition, on the one hand I guess it may be a good idea to go with a 'tried and tested' RIB that has already done it successfully. On the other hand, if you approach manufacturers of RIBs which have not yet completed such a challenge, might you be able to use this as a bargaining tool? After all, it must be good for manufacturers to be able to say that their boats can stand up to conditions in any part of GB.

All IMVHO, of course!

I might be slightly biased as we picked up our new Scorpion 8.1 on Saturday ! But the hull is simply awesome. We had lots of opportunity to test it in the Solent chop this weekend, those of you who were out will know what I mean !

Just wish I knew Alan so that he could have got me one for 35K !
