Identifying Helm Pump

Guys, any ideas...

Hypro Marine are not sure as it does not look like the Seastar or Baystar pumps. It's not an Ultraflex as far as I can tell.

It uses a Hynautic Cylinder at the back which was common to several systems I think.

Possibly a Marol Pump ? its the closet match looking at the rear of the unit.

Timely question...I've been trying to figure out what mine is so I can order a new seals kit.

NCP; are you saying you have a Hynautic unit?

I'm fairly sure the Seastar unit is rebuildable; I recall seeing illustrated directions at one time; didn't seem too hard.

Don't know about other units though.

From what I have been told the only things that go wrong with these pumps is the o rings and seals which you can replace and that's if you can get the steering wheel off but by the time you have bought all the bits your not that far off a new pump.

Mick; That's what I'm saying. The helm shaft seal is a $6 part (retail; probably more like $2 or $3 if you source it yourself - it's a standard hydraulic seal, I believe.) The O-rings can't be much either. Cost is going to be labor, and if you do it yourself, well...

Saw a post on a different forum where someone was talking about replacing the O-rings on the check valves (again, this was for a Seastar unit); apparently he didn't even have to remove the hoses (worked through the two big plugs on the rear of the unit.) Had pictures, but since I wasn't a subscribed member, I couldn't see them.

If that was originally manufacturer fitted then you haven't a hope in hell of finding out

Saying that, it may be Parker of Parflex fame, but they don't seem to show any marine steering pumps on their website although much of ours is made from their kit.

Looks like I have a Hynautic H-320 Helm. Unfortunately there is nothing about it online. It seems to be a rare one.

A quick google suggests that it has been replaced with this:

Yeah, thats what Teleflex have said. Thing is I only want to change the front seal I think I can source one locally.
