Hmmmm. Better still, we could harry them in shifts - they need a close eye kept on them. It's good you having the SR, it's like The Knights of Columbanus, the way an SR opens doors on here and you'd have the Avon Army at your back when things turn nasty

With everyone having rib gatherings we should start an Irish thread, no need to wait 'till the spring for a gathering as the weather is consistently bad here!

We were having the laugh recently that our best days out this year were in January and February - calm and cold and clear! There's a wee fleet of us up here in the NW, launching from Donegal Bay to the Foyle. This year saw us on Inishmurray, (off!) Rathlin O Beirne, Tory, Inishtrahull and Islay. There is almost always good times to be had on the Swilly* if it's blowing and Mulroy is doable in a gale, if you don't have any particular Grá for your props and skeg!

Visitors are always welcome. I'd especially like to organise a link up with the Ribnutters from the Western Isles & Scroatland

I bet he wasnt even sleeping on the bridge.
They did ship him off to NZ & named the approach channel to Auckland after him though!
Im in Cork, there must be plenty of Rib owners down here.

I have a good friend who lives in NI who is always trying to convince me to bring my ickle boat across. But I think it would need to be perfect conditions for me to brave it; I could probably be convinced to do it in company in reasonable weather - but my littul tubs not exactly speedy so I would need to find someone equally as stupid with an equally innapropriate vessel. Sods law if I can get a weather window good enough to get there and back with confidence then wife/kids/work will have other plans.

In any case thats probably not a trip for the people I am thinking of taking on the 'voyage' that started this thread.

I have two option at the moment, I will be seeing my co-conspirators tomorrow night for some light refreshments and will therefore try to make a decisions between the two at that point.

My two options are essentially circumnavigating Bute or Jura with other bits and pieces tagged on to add interest.

being born on Bute and doing almost all my ribbing on Loch Sween or Sound of Jura I commend both choices as having great potential. What ever your final choice have a great time and be safe,

Mallaig and points west is very good if the weather is reasonable.
We have had two trips bumming around the small isles this year and there is a great campsite of Rum right on the water edge, £ 1.50 per night with toilets and hot showers.
Alternatively mallaig and go round the corner into Loch Nevis, it doesn't get much more islated than this and is pretty sheltered once inside the loch, plus there is a pub and agood restaurant right on the water.
We have a few good trips over the years in there as well, pic is of the loch from the beach.

OK - I'm currently leaning towards a trip round Jura (or if the weather's shit hiding in Loch Sween). In my research I found this:

Anyone on here? It looks like they had a LOT of kit with them, although they were there for a week so I guess they'll need much more beer than me!

Current challenge is finding a weekend when all three of us are permitted a weekend off work and kids!

That's an oddly moving clip. Reminds me of so many trips past, waking to a new day in the middle of nowhere. Don't know where you should go, but I know that if you don't cut the time out of your schedule with a ruthless blade, you'll regret it for ever.
