Ideas for a canopy/roof.

I am in the process of "pimping my rib" and one of my ideas was to have a canopy. this is primarily to mound solar pannels and lights. aswell as looking cool. My initial ideas for this are stainless steel tubing at the front and a single tube at the back, the canopy would be made out of plywood and then covered in firbeglass and a white gelcoat to match my console.

I have attiched some basic images of what i am thinking incase it is unclear.

your opinion and ideas on this matter would be greatly appreciated, so if you have any could you post them below.

Hi Cammy.

On the whole, I wouldn't add any height to an SR4. It doesn't have the "presence" to carry it off in the real world. Have a butchers at Biffer's rig and ask yourself "will it work at half the length?"

morning, tried to pm and it won't let me, haven't got time to bugger about this morn, you're never going to get away with a fixed bimini on that boat, the only thing i can think of at the moment is a canopy that attaches to the tubes, ave a look at osculai, i think thats where we got the last one

Cam, if you're going ahead with this, I can give you a fibreglass roof foc if it's any use to you.
On just three poles it'll wobble badly. You'd be better making a tall A-frame at the transom and carry the roof to the stern. A roof and large screen is not a bad idea if you're out in poor weather often imho.

You could also mount an extra set of controls up there and turn it into a flybridge!

I think it will look a little out of place on your boat.

I reckon that's going to make it well tippy, slow you down (especially into a headwid) and without some serious fixings is likely to collapse at the first sign of a stuff, or rip your console out the deck if you fix it as per your sketches......

Lights & solar panels can go on the A- frame (as your lights appear to be already!).

As Biffer says, you could go down a super lightweight "cloth" canopy route. Someone has to have a ripped sail off a dinghy. (Assuming that photo has breen taken where I think it has!)

Failing that a baseball cap with a bit of string to attatch it to you is usually works quite well

I personally don't think it would be a case of pimp my rib..
maybe a fancy A frame would be better.
or even coloured vinyl graphics to the tubes .

you might have to glass it in though, gaffer tape will struggle with an mf cab in a heavy sea.
