I need to pick someone up in Pompey

I will be coming over from Cowes to pick some people up who will be staying at the Hilton Portsmouth. Where would the most convenient place be for them to get to so that I can collect them in the RIB? Ta.

If you go to the Camber there is a pontoon around the corner, just beyond the pub, or climb the ladders of the wall. I am not sure if you can pick up by the slip? opposite the Wightlink car ferry terminal, or you could try Gunwharf Quays, they may let you moor up their for a couple of minutes while you go to the gate to let your freinds on to the pontoons, there is a push button to open the gates by the office. Hope this helps.

The Camber sounds good. On entering Portsmouth do I keep to port in the small boat channel and then cross the harbour to the east side when further in? Is access to the Camber allowed at all times?

You must use the small boat channel and then call QHM on Ch 11 and request permission to cross at the Ballast pile. The Camber is open all the time but be wary of the ferries entering and exiting the Camber.
