I read an article where a Captain of a small ship reported that he had split a 45 gallon drum of oil on the deck and some had leaked into the harbour. He reported as required by the new regs and instead of sending someone out to help clean it up they prosecuted him instead!!!

Of course after something like that how many other crews will report something unless they are caught???

I use them, they work.
Yes, that's the sort of thing. The ones we have are branded 'Overboard' - just piced them up in a chandlers one day as they looked like just what we needed as handy bags.

Codders,

The MAIB are, I assume, the same as the CAA medical board - in other words tell them nothing.....!!! If you call up the CAA at Gatwick and say i need to go to hospital for a minor op they pull your medical and charge you 500 quid plus 3 visists and 3 months before re-issuing you with a restricted medical.......... all for a bit of grissle to be removed by key hole surgery....!!!! = they are like the tax man - bugger if you dont - they bugger you if you do.....!! cant win!

Normal common sense precautions apply - and no i dont condone not telling the MAIB about things they need to know about....!

Tinker - your post has a fatal flaw....!!!!!!

In order to avoid the tax man you need to earn money that he is interested in.......................!!! This is the boating world where we pi$$ good money after bad - just like Gordon Bush & George Brown lol....!
