Hydraulic Steering

I've just got hold of a Yammie 70 2 stroke and and I have a hydraulic Steering kit. does anybody run a small engine with hydraulic steering or am I being a wuss thinking about putting it on

I had hydraulic steering on my 4.7m/Merc 60. It was much nicer to drive than with the cable steering fitted before it.

Well the last engine I had that didnt use hydraulics was a 135 so I'd say you were indeed a fluff bag ,.. now where did I put me cappucino with carpet tack topping

Running a 115 on a Seastar kit.

Not as small an engine, but smaller than a 300.

I like the ease of turning and the lack of maintenance (aside from fluid checks), but usually hydraulic helms have a higher lock-to-lock turn count than cable.

I would say go for it.

The maintenance aspect, or rather the lack of it with hydraulics, would be the winner for me. Though of course, if you are muscularly challenged, that may also be a factor

Have a 5mt Rib 60 Yamaha and Hydraulic Steering.

Much nicer than cable, would reccomend fitting.

I had hydraulic on a 5m 60HP fitted RIB and wouldn't have a RIB of any size again without it.
Cables were a PITA and after replacing two within a year due to wear becoming apparent (routing was as good as it was ever going to be on a small narrow RIB) I fitted Hydraulic and never looked back.
It made the boat so much nicer to use, although you will have to pay more attention to your trim tab than with NFB steering or you will be turning the wheel to go straight!

Hydraulic steering every time.

It will outlast cable steering, much less maintenance and a far easier drive.
