Hydo boat lifts ( hoists )

Any users of this forum had any experience with Boat lifts. whilst having seen them at Southampton in the show I have yet to find anybody who has one.

Also what is the general feedback on their use. Are they safe , reliable , easy to use ? What are marinas stances on deploying one for use in the UK

Any further information would be appreciated as I am considering one for future use however cannot find any information on the web either .

I looked into this recently.
I was sold on the idea until I discovered the price. In my case about 10k and that was a "good" price.
You also need to sweet talk the Marina managers as pontoon-side mods are needed and a slightly wider berth. The whole caboodle works very well and is re-assuringly speedy, even in a strong side wind and the other advantages are obvious.
However, I reckoned that for 10k plus, I could get a lot of lift-outs, inspects, antifouls and engine/leg services.

Apart from price, I have no doubts at all about the kit. Its even tow-able to a new in-marina berth once you have disconnected the pontoon-side electics and pump. If you move marinas it's probably best to dismantle, transport and reassemble. Initial and subsequent install/set-ups are best done by the manufacturer/agents.

Oh, PS.
In my marina-Torquay, there are about 10 of these units made by diferent manufacturers. Although there is one 8m(?) rib on one, all the others are used by racing yachts. Dunno what they are called but they are about 6-7m long, single mast and have an "open" transom. These guys are always polishing their hulls etc. and are clearly serious about their sport. They must be because their boats cost about 30k and they spend another 10k on a hydro-hoist.

I appreciate your feedback , do you have any further information about what type are available in the Uk or any web site address for me to view. The price does appear expensive although in the Marina I am based in ( MDL ) Chatham we have a major problem with sacraficial anodes lasting very short periods of time indeed. The Marina is based in the historic boat yard and so much metal and waste is prevalant that we even have to resort to hanging seperate sacrifical anodes in addition to ones fitted in the water.

I need a hoist capable of taking craft from 7 - 9 mt

we are delivering one for a manufacturer in about a weeks time, it's already arrived at our yard so if you want to have a look, your welcome. I don't know who the manufacturer is but can find out if you want.

Also there is a ery neet modular plastic job at drivers wharf I think its owned by Gordon and that's quite nifty I think that's made by Walcon ,,,will confirm today after i have had a butchers!

why don't you fit a Mercathode ????
I have fitted the Volvo equivelant to a power boat that was going through anodes every couple of months, the boat has now been in the water for two months and the anodes are bearly touched.

Hi David,
I was getting fed up with launching and recovering so I had a quote for a hydro hoist for my 7 meter boat. It was 5K which was cheaper than I expected (still flippin expensive) but when I asked in my Marina (port Solent) they said I was not allowed to fit one.....
