Humber Shock Seats - Replacement Shock

Has anyone out there tried to replace the Shock Absorber in use on a Humber Shock Seat. These seats have been in use by Humber for around 8 years and they mostly use a BiTubo motorcycle shock absorber - Serial Number SP283WME02 (mine are from 2014)

The UK Distributor (Zion Motorsports) is a not responsive (since October) , I have also spoken to BiTubo who are nice but just point you back to the UK Distributor, when I pushed they pointed me to another company Hawk Racing who promised to order one on the 8th of Feb 2019 and I have heard nothing since. I have chased since to no avail. All very tedious.

I then identified an alternative shock from YSS, but when this was sent they sent the incorrect size (30mm too short - you can see in pic the impact this has to the seat position) so I am still without a replacement!!

Has ANYONE out there had this issue or even know about these seats (Alix at Humber pointed me at a different supplier altogether but they, whilst helpful, are reliant on the same UK distributor above).

The shocks are 330mm Long. I attach a pic to show the old shock in black and badly rusted and the new one in red where you can see the impact of it being too short.

Putting on any old shock is not an option as too soft and the seat will be too bouncy and too hard and it wont have enough give.

Has anyone out there dealt with and successfully replaced these shocks before?

Let me know and thanks as ever JT

I can't help specifically but you could try a motorcycle suspension manufacturer e.g.

https://www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk/files/nr4.html

or these chaps are (from your profile) in your neck of the woods.

I quite like the simplicity of those even if getting the replacement bits isn't quite so simple.

Thanks Guy will try both today but I am guessing a bespoke build may be expensive. I feel there must be an off the shelf solution for the shock. If there is these easily become the cheapest shock seats on the market and they work well. Movement is forward and down rather than straight down but once it’s firm enough then you only use the spring/shock when you really need too. If there’s anyone else out there with these please get in touch. Thanks J

Many Thanks GuyC - I spoke to Steve Jordan Motorcycles who in turn directed me to Hagon Shocks. Tony at Hagon got me to ship the old Bitubo shock. The then produced a replacement. It did end up costing more than I would have liked, but the same shocks/materials are in use on Shocks they produce for the Dutch Navy so he says they will wear much better than what we had before. Shocks were fitted on Friday and tested by me on Saturday, they are big solid chunky shocks, much more substantial than the old Bitubo ones and work brilliantly. If ANYONE is looking to replace Humber Shocks, please PM me and I can help you out. This was a world of pain and now thankfully resolved brilliantly :-) I will post some pics of the new shocks in situ later. Thanks again Guy - J
