hull refurb with tubes attached

Hello,

This year my hull got some bad scratches. I am thinking of a complete refurb. Of course i read the refurb thread of ribraff already
I have no problem to work with topcoat, but my main concern are the tubes. If possible i would like to leave them on the hull. Is it possible to leave them there? Since the scrathces are within the gelcoat, i don't have to sand it down to the glass. Just some fairing on the big ones at the stern i hope? Should i worry about the dust on the tubes (no glass)? OK, i can't flip the hull. But removing and glueing the tubes again isn't a task i could manage by myself. Would be great if i could sand, spray and polish it with tubes attached...??

many thanks
martin

I had a hull referb by my self a few years ago. I left the tubes on it. The dust was not a problem. When you resprey it though you need to cover everything very well. It all depends on what short of re-sprey you want to do. Good luck is a long process.

Hi manos,

Thanks for your reply. I don't know if i spray it. The topcoat i want to use can also be rolled easily. Then sand it and polish. Looks perfect. My father did his airplane models this way. Long process....well since the boat is only 4,7m ihope it's not that bad

No problem Martin. Hope it works out.
By the way do you know Kosta (Morpheous) is from Vienna?
Very nice guy. Met him and his family in March in Vienna and we expienced an Austrian-Greek hospitality. Spoke with him during summer once but have lost tracks. Do you know if he is still around?

Martin, it takes about an hour to strip the console and engine off a small Avon which means you can then turn the hull over so access is so much easier. I watched Rogue Wave do just this to his and was impressed with the finish he achieved.

Hello,

manos, Kosta should be still around in the schlauchbootforum. Just send him a PN. I was not much there recently, because here i have a dozen or so of Avon owners. In Germany and Austria it's quite exotic. Yes, kosta is a really nice guy. I met him some months ago.

Pete, it would be no problem to strip engine and console off. But when flipping the hull, the whole weight of the boat rests on the tubes. That's OK??

thanks a lot
