How to install an electric winch? Parts?

Firstly what is the bit you glue on the front for the rope and chain to run through and dock on called?

Secondly which winch would you use for a 6m RIB?

if it's for pulling the anchor rope i use a mandraulic pull system with grunt and sweat facility incorporated.

Nah not the roller, the attachment an anchor locks into at the end of a how sprit, they are usually glued to the bow. Its so you can winch in over roller of sorts but locks the anchor into place when under way.

Seems every manufacturer of them has a different concept.

Essentially you need a bow sprit (with rollers) to keep the anchor clear of the pontoons, when the anchor comes up it locks into place on the attachment, which doesnt seem to have a name as such.

One of the easiest solutions is the minkota deckhand on a sprit, but the anchor used is not the sort I would use in my water.

Anchor holder :-) according to this guy who admittedly said he doesnt know what its called :-)

Stronger make a whole host of solutions but very industrial looking. I wanted something neat and clean. I might contact a few big RIB makers to see what they use.

Mounting on an inflatable boat : Stronger

Quite often the side plates of the bow roller will have a hole in them that co-incides with a hole in the anchor stock. Once the anchor is up, a drop pin is put through the holes to hold the anchor in place.

Yes great info and thanks for links. Its paramount the anchor is pulled tight to the bow sprit to lock in place and as you said a pin type system may work. The last thing I want is a slightly loose anchor making shed loads of noise.

The other thing is I carry 2 anchor types, a grapnel reef anchor and a danforth for when Im over sand and freediving for scallops, Kina (sea urchins in NZ), and Paua (a very tasty species of Abalone sort after in NZ and even dived for in the White pointer infested Chatham Islands for exporting).

But also it needs to be industrial and fixed to the hull, this is one method I like, it avoids the stabiliser system being attached below the bow sprit back to the hull. They seem very crude systems to me. This seems more clean.

Welcome to the forum.

I wonder if you get an award for the biggest gap between joining and posting.

I quite like that too, still industrial, but when you want solid functionality, sometimes thats what you need. :-)
