I think the single most expensive Item could be the shock and spring made from corrosion free stainless. If someone could find a cheap source of these then that would go along way to reducing costs.

So what do you know? I have been researching this area and another choice might be the type of foam and just replace the foam seats that are supplied. Cost is a major issue to everyone

The reason they (seats) cost so much is the materials needed to make one that works .. and then lasts with the constant pounding, and then,.. is easily fixable to your boat .. Sure through time they may become cheaper but its a bit of a bespoke area IMO at the moment so good ones are bound to cost a few bob .

I would love to replace at least the 2 helm seats for the crew, as they can be out for many hours. Whilst the Parker is very soft riding and we dont go looking for the big stuff, I consider them to be worth while. For me, they would have to come in at less than 1000/each.

Having said that, I think that new rules will result in the need for seats such as this for passengers too. So that means 14 seats in all, suddenly the boat costs at least 14,000 more. This throws the profit/loss viability right out the window.

Mountain bike damper is what I would use. Nothing fancy, a fox float r (air sprung, adjustable rebound) can be had for under 100. I first thought that it would suffer in the marine environment but thinking about it I think it would hold its own. They are all painted or anodised aluminium and you could make custom stainless bushes. The pounding is probably comparable to the abuse I give my mountain bike shocks (although bottom out could be more severe).

As for length, you don't need a long stroke for the design I have in my head.

Sounds like Mollers has beaten me to it though with some sort of involvement with a new product?!

Apologies we are not yet down to the 150 mark! But our aim is to produce the highest performance seats available, at a lower price. To achieve this we focus on simple design principles, and modern high volume manufacturing processes (such as injection molding).
