High Definition Video

Starting to think about getting an HD Video to mount on the A frame. There's been a number of great YouTube posts from various folks on here so there must be some knowledge of what's good and what isn't? Most recent talk I've seen was how good the Go Pro Hero was...but, there must be others?

So, anyone like to recommend their system?

I'm thinking A frame mounted (but also suitable for mounting on a kayak or mountain bike) and easy to fit and detach, waterproof, wide angle, rechargeable with good battery life, SD card memory. What else should I be considering?

I would go ahead with the GoPro with a roll-bar mount. Good quality product and fully waterproof, unlike many of the competition. I use mine for everything, rib videos, skiing and general photos and videos.

We even suction-cupped a radar once, and it held perfecly and gave a great view over everyone in the boat and thanks to the wider-angle lense, compared to the competitors, gave a good view of the surroundings.

Me too, been looking at them on Ebay for the last few weeks....admit the Gopro looks favorite on my list so far.

From the US Go Pro website it looks like, in ascending order of price, there are the following which are all waterproof to 60m:

* SD Hero: Standard Definition. Runs on AA batteries. Up to 8Gb SD card memory with a firmware tweak ($100)
* HD Hero 960: High Definition (but not 1080 or 60fps). Rechargeable. Max 32Gb memory ($180)

On top of that it looks like a roll bar mount might be needed (provided your A frame is between 1.25 and 2.5" dia) otherwise it's a self adhesive mount that comes as standard with the camera (not a big fan of £300 cameras 'stuck' to an A frame myself)

Anyone know any better?

I can vouch for the go pro hero HD, got it on Ebay (US) I have the sticky mount on top of the a frame, only problem is the frame vibrates at low speed. The suction mount is surprisingly good, stuck it on the fairing of GSXR1000 stayed put at speeds well in to triple digits!

I've got a Go pro HD.

Easy to use and loads of different mounting options available. I use a mount on the A frame and another on the grab rail, the camera just clicks in to place. Very easy to unclip and re position when your out.

I paid £299 from Snow & Rock, it came with a variety of mounts.

Someone told me a new non HD version will be available soon to replace the Go pro 5 for less than £100.

I have a Kodak Play Sport and it has proved absolutely waterproof and shockproof.

It is also remarkably good value. The quality is superb.

But you can get it shipped to the UK for $30 and just pay the $ price.

Perhaps you would have to pay import duty etc etc, I have no idea on that one, but heh, do we all pay all taxes??

I cant recommend the GOPRO HD enough ..... its a fantastic bit of kit and very versatile ..... i bought one last year ..... the first video I took on my rib was posted in the gallery section last year .....

Thanks for all the recommendations. Got a GoPro Hero Motorsports kit from Dogcamsport.

Ordered Tuesday morning, delivered Wednesday morning. A couple of spec and setup questions answered promptly and knowledgeably by phone

There's a couple of places in the UK that were a bit cheaper but their answers to the spec questions were of the flavour "we only sell it, we don't know nothing about it". Briefly considered importing from the US but didn't want any potential warranty hassles

I've just seen my first GoPro Hero in the flesh - wow! Tiny. I want one.

The unit I saw was lashed to the top of an 11m Redbay - the footage I saw was taken in the lumps off Rathlin - of water over the cam, stunning resolution. Coming to YouTube soon, I hope
