Welcome Mentor:

I too live on a small Island, about 84 square miles. Good luck on getting a
RIB. No Islander should be without one!!!

I didn't realise RIBNET had been going that long - as a matter of interest when did it start?

Sold Rene a Rib in March 2000 so it was going then. There was an earlier version but there wasn't enough members to keep it going so it closed for a while until the internet really took off.

I quote from the homepage:

'RIBnet was launched at the beginning of 1998'

Zodiac Rover is right, RIBnet was "officially" launched at the London Boat Show exactly nine years ago. It wasn't a big event, it just involved someone going to the new fangled internet terminals on the IPC stand and switching them to RIBnet!

It was just a static site in initially, with articles about buying RIBs, cruising, racing, and the very first incarnation of a BIBOA web site. Forums were trialled for a while (against my better judgement at the time) but there wasn't enough interest to make them worthwhile so the experiment was stopped after a few months. RIBnet wasn't closed down though.

The forums as we know them were introduced in May 2000 and since that time have grown to the point where they basically are RIBnet.
