As time goes by we hope to reduce prices even further. As our own prices come down we will pass the savings on rather than increase our profits - it's all about volume.

We don't make much on each one but IF we get the volume we will be ok.

Got o admit I am getting seriously cold feet now we are about to launch - can't believe how much work it's taken!!!

Again thanks everyone for the support.

Huh! You think you've got timing issues, I recently parted with 120 squid plus VAT to shift a quarter pallet (75kg) from Devon (oh arrr) to Norn Iron (hi). Damn, could have waited.

Good luck!

We have business out on the Hebrides and use AJG parcels, Hebrides haulage and DR McLeod's.. Because of the smaller vehicles, transits, AJG do a lot of work and a a very good service. The cheaper ferry fares should have a better result fro these smaller vehicles. For the small items you cannot beat the royal mail, I have purchased stuff from Portsmouth at 4pm one day and its been delivered at 11am the next.

Agreed .. I just got two pairs of wellies sent from Devon to the Aultbea area on a 2 day service and cost me £7.50 using parcelforce I sometimes wonder whether using a Web service, that the supplier takes a hit on the delivery price though to outlying places, because I couldnt see where on the site my delivery address had any relevance to the shipping cost ?

Try www.wedelivertheworld.co.uk (aka Fast Lane Couriers). Starts at £9.99 for UK deliveries inc Highlands and Islands. Service is through DHL although it's subbed out in more remote areas. No dangerous goods though and price goes up with weight.

For DG, you could try Tufnells or Nightfreight - I know both of them have delivered various UN labelled items to us. No idea what their Highlands/Islands coverage or rates would be though.

Codders - good luck with the new venture - will take a look.

Thanks for all your help and recommendations on this subject. We have now managed to get the delivery price down and this has been reflected in our shipping prices bringing the shipping to the Scottish Highlands and Isles down to £19.99.

Thanks again

After much nagging and explaining that putting the price up was not only affecting there business but was also affecting our orders to the Highlands, City Link agreed to drop there price.

Deliveries

Just a thought for all you guys out there delivering goods, particularly to the UK - have you ever thought of making a virtue of the delivery service(s) you use?
I don't exactly live in the stix, but some of the courier services are a pita for us working families. Some of them try to deliver once, and if we are not in I have to go best part of 20 miles to collect goods from some poxy potting shed, served by a surly yoof who has problems stringing two words together.
No such problems with Royal Mail who can leave items at the local PO for collection.
So, how about looking at it from the customer's point of view, and making delivery services more user friendly for the end customer, and not just focussing on cheap prices for the vendor
Just a thought, it could be your USP.

Ian - are you saying that you, the customer, are happy to pay more to get stuff delivered via a different courier? I think that there are also different situations for different localities. Royal Mail to my house is just as much of PITA as any courier. Not least because they are only open quite restricted hours - whereas the spotty yoof in the shed is usually there till 8pm. Actually I find that most places will deliver to my office which is much simpler.

You can have a sneek look here but no orders until Monday. Remeber there are a few finishing touches left. It may look simple but that's the idea - all the work went into the back end!!!

I think it is ideal for people who buy and sell on Ebay - if you buy a Land Rover engine from the other end of the country it isn't such a bargain by the time you have collected it.

So many things on Ebay say "buyer collects" - the seller is losing out and so are potential purchasers.
Codprawn,
No sign of Ireland on your list. Any Plans for same.
I normally get 2 to 3 pallets from UK to Ireland every month and looked at your site to see if I could put business your way .
