Help please!. First time nerves in Cornwall!

As Solenteers we are taking the plunge and trailing down to the Far West for a couple of weeks. Staying at Zennor (where else!). We were looking for company to go out on some familiarisation trips - St Michaels Bay, the Lizard, Lands End, St Ives etc. Planning to launch from Penzance (easy), Hayle (tricky?), Porthleven (easy?).

Ps Message to Jono Garton

Jono, your boat is fine. doesnt seem to miss the sheep and is now living on an old turkey farm near Chichester.

Cant comment on launching sites etc. but see Geoff's site at:
www.boatlaunch.co.uk

I cruise in the area and can recommend you take a trip out round Land's End (on a calm day).
Quite spectacular. Go via The Runnel Stone Bouy and up to Longships Lighthouse. Take your camera and dont forget to wave to all the tourists visiting the vastly overpriced and tacky Land's End plastic village on the cliff tops.

If you go Lizard way, check your chart and give the western side a wide sea berth. You can go right in on the eastern side however, right under the old Lloyds signal station.

Further east, ware The Manacles.

Zennor

The easyest place too launch from in Mounts Bay is Penzance, but it is tidal. You need more than 2.5 meters of tide to use the slip way.

Porthleven is also very tidal, and I have no experience of Hayle slipway.

If you let me know when you are down we can meet up.

Thanks foir info - I think I will try the Penzance slip first. Apparently Hayle is OK for the north coast but the bar can be daunting at first as the channel moves around a lot. Guess I will try and find a fishing baot to follow.

Ginger Coastie - Will be in Cornwall from 14th August to 2nd September I will get in touch and try to arrange a trip out with you.
