If you have the use of a mooring, you could launch at Durgan. It's a bit cheeky, we chuck the SR in there quite regularly as it's the nearest slip to home. You can leave your trailer at my place for the week if it helps.
I'm permanent Falmouth and often Helford Passage.

Trouble with Durgan is there's no facilities at all. One payphone red phonebox, that's it.

Guys - I'm a bit blown away by the responses, info, a chance to store the trailer and someone's worked out which cottage we're staying at. Coastguard is owned by the sister of some friends and really looking forward to it.

OK, here's the admission! I've never spent a holiday on Cornwall. We have a family house in Salcombe and since I was a twinkle in my father's eye it's been holidays there. We're there the week before but since we bought the RIB and are trailing (not swinging mooring) we're venturing further afield.

seizethemoment - I'm a big yachtie. sailed all my life in just about anything you can mention. Just sold a 49er cos at the age of 45 I am WAY too old for that stuff now!! Would love a beer at Restronguet. My kids haven't got the sailing bug so I've not done the Oppy parent bit but they love the water - mainly swimming but also just messing around, which I thoroughly encourage.

What age have any of you folks put kids through powerboat training?

But, the wine, nibbles and banter adds to the occasion.

Fair point...as The Arrows pass overhead and you try to continue watching by swivelling your neck through impossible angles, remember that the tubes of a RIB are at a perfect knee height above deck for pitching you straight into the drink as you stagger around not wanting to miss the show! Two near misses last year

Have a look at the Helford River Children's Sailing Trust website www.hrcst.org.uk if you want to give them a flavour of what it's all about. I don't know if they do powerboat training but they certainly do sailing dinghies.
