Hayling to Poole

Next Friday I have to take my son to compete in the Honda RYA Rib challenge at Parkstone yatch Club , I am going to go by sea from Hayling and wonder if there are any hazards I should be aware of after leaving the Solent at Hurst Castle as I have not been further than that . I hasten to add I will only be doing this if the weather is favourable . GPS etc carried .

Hi

There are some shallows in the Western approaches. All are very well charted.
I can recommend the Admiralty small craft chart pack for the area it has all the necessary info thereon.
There are also numerous lobster pots, some buoyed fairly well and some (a lot) not buoyed very well at all. These are not charted . People pick up ropes there a lot.
The shallows/shoals between the Noodles and Hurst can make it lumpy in the right conditions. Although not a problem for your craft.

Have a safe trip.
PS I have done Hayling to Poole and back in a day in my little 4.8 ribcraft so your boat will eat it

Ooh forgot to mention...traffic in and out of Poole harbour on a busy day, busyville. Whacky races on the way out in the morning and ditto on't way back in the evening.
Enjoy

There are, but they're all shown on the charts of the area, I'd recommend you buy them.

Hayling To Poole

Did it yesterday and a had a great trip 1h58min Chi bar to Poole entrance about 48 litres used. Got 1 boy through to Finals at Southampton boat show other one pipped again by 2 secs! Next year we will do it .

Lessons learned

GPS packed up about 2 miles after leaving Hurst in poor vis reverted to plot and bash nav and hit Poole entrance on the nose .Humminbird NS25 is junk

Buy bigger rib very hard on back etc .

Very cold wear more clothes to start with .

Lobster pots everywhere some below surface .

Watch out for SBS ribs at speed in harbour , they appear not to worry about 10kn speed limit ( would you argue with them?)

Cruise in company we met another boat from Seaview at Cowes adds to safety .
