Handheld VHF holder?

I have a handheld VHF and want to somehow fix it to the console

Any ideas which dont look to naff... at the holders for mobile phones are too small

I use a Viper GPS/Radio pouch for my radio, either on a lifejacket strap or with a pair of poppers screwed to a flat surface. That works very well.

www.dashmount.co.uk is a top site for mobile phone cradles. Probably find something suitable there.

Jon, I use a winch handle holder. Yottie gear, works well for me (make sure you get the right size for the radio you have).

I bolted a flat piece of stainless to the console with washers to give it some distance from the actual console & then the belt clip holds it on very well & takes up no space - I tried velcro , but not strong enough to hold it when it gets bumpy ! Looked at various holders & for me they all looked wrong on the boat. I'll seeif I can get a photo to show what I mean

I keep mine on me on the basis it is going to be needed if I get chucked out of the boat, but when I was thinking about putting it on the console I was going to get one of the Std Horizon snap-release clips (turn radio through 180deg and pull up and it comes off) pull it to bits and screw it to the console, with a bit of foam or something underneath the bottom of the radio for support. Never got around to it, just an idea.

I know a sailing club that has done that with its safety boat, they definitely needed some foam though.

Yes it would need support otherwise the bracket would just snap I think.

Another thought that occurred to me was to make a support for the bottom of the radio out of a piece of wood, shaped to wrap partly around the base of the radio and with a peg in each side of the wood and a strong elastic band or something similar to hold the radio in against the support. It would still be quick to remove just pop off the elastic, twist the radio up and pull it off the mount.
