Website's long gone, the 1st 2 numbers are the build year, the other 2 are given consecutively to each hull although I'm not sure exactly how.

Mine is 9591 so built in '95 but wether its the 91st Arctic ever built or the 91st rib etc?

Hi Martini
You are right with the first two digits, the second two I was told are the consective allocation numbers, this is to any vessel built, so 9590 might be another Artic or an aircraft carrier as could be 9592.

Whats does it mean though as the number above doesn't relate to the first two digits been the year of build.
Can any info been gained from that number?

Try looking up HIN number and select a site within your region. Works in the US:

http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.html

(A quick look shows that the database is US-centric)

Might work on your side of the pond as well...

Forget the last post.

Missing HIN plate on my Osprey

covers it for the UK, I think.

That will most likely be a Lloyds register reference number - some boats may have been moulded under Lloyds supervision. We see it lots on 1980s Westerlys

SOU refers to their Southampton office.
