I rely on BASC, and is very similar advice. A car on a highway is a public place, and just having a knife in the car is not a defence. You need "good reason"

Can you not read???? the 2 previous posts clearly states that you need "good reason"

Can I suggest you read the posts carefully before you start making assumptions on others knowledge.

As for your earlier post about leaving a knife in a car, that is NOT good reason.

My earlier post about leaving the knife locked securely in your car if you went into a shopping mall / centre was exactly for that reason, you may have had good reason to have it in a public place transporting it direct from your boat to home, but once you deviated and took it for a wander around the shops when it could be left in the car, good reason went out of the window. So common sense helps as well because at the end of the day you will have to firstly convince a police officer you had good reason and if that fails and you are charged , then you will have the court you had good reason.

I answered SPR not you, and may I suggest you don't talk nonsense as well, leaving a knife securely in your car while say filling with fuel on your way home say from diving or your boat IS good reason, please don't try and teach me the law, you will lose

Yes, You need a good reason, and if you need to fill a car on your way home, it is good reason, along with having to take a bathroom break, food break etc etc.

You cannot just leave it in the car indefinately. Your earlier post mentioned leaving a knife in a car while you "decide to wander around a mall" not a convincing reason in my mind, but hey ho, as you are a law expert, i stand to be corrected.

So I guess you a a solicitor/or barrister then and have full and complete knowledge of the law?

good - we know where to come when we need you to get us out of jail - for free! The problem with the law is it's as clear as mud. The interpretation of it by the police doesn't always stand scrutiny until it gets to court and i for one don't rate my chances trying to explain it to a policeman having a bad day. Having a ''good'' reason for carrying a knife depends on what you call 'reasonable'. Depending on the police on the day, you may have to go all the way to court to get it clarified. This may be extreme, but because i have to pay for my lawyers/barristers, i think being cautious about what i carry is prudent if i want to protect my bank balance! Unfortunately we live in a nanny state which keeps bringing out stupid laws that rely on 'reasonable' people interpreting it to protect us from idiots. Time to move.
