Great hull

Whatever my arguments with Prosport I have to be honest and say the RIB itself is brilliant aside the niggly probs.

Had a great time out yesterday evening - stunning weather and an amazing oily swell coming in - about 6' up and down but no waves!!!

Hull gives such a soft ride it's incredible - took off about 3 times prop out of water and you could hardly feel the landings - also still not a drop of spray on board.

There was another RIB out playing - about a 5.5m - he was having a great time - airborne on every wave - and yet we were just steamrollering through. I know the size of the boat helps a lot but even so well impressed. Trouble is 41kts feels so slow - will have to change the prop but I may miss the acceleration then.....

Oops guess this one wasn't quite as good,

Despite receiving a clean bill of health from the surveyors, the transom failed on the vessel’s maiden voyage

The 6.5 is a great boat, one of the best ribs ive ever been in, however the 7.5 is the most dangerous boat I have ever been in, its more like a submarine in a following sea.

I think Codders as open a can of worm with this thread.

I came very close to buying a Prosport, but people here advised me not to. I ended up buying a sports cruiser!

Miss my old RIB dearly (Lencraft & Osprey), might consider trading this season

I wasn't particularly refering to Codders, hull more the advert on boats and outboards and codders thread just convienent.

Twin almost new Volvo D3 160’s for sale with DPS Drives. Hours just 30. 1 year manufactures warranty still to run. Volvo fuel filters with water sensors. Control panels. Looms. One engine with power steering hydraulic pump. The other does not have power steering as the rig was designed for twin use with power steering on the starboard side only. We would separate in which case a pump will need to be re-fitted to the port engine. Fully serviced and over winterised.
A genuine reason for sale: The above engines and drives were on a new Pro-Sports RIB which was delivered December 2005 and commissioned in February 2006. On completion and again at delivery, the vessel was surveyed by well known UK marine surveyors MCA Workboat Coding and compliance with CE Plating and RCD requirements. Despite receiving a clean bill of health from the surveyors, the transom failed on the vessel’s maiden voyage and it transpired that RCD manufacturing requirements had quite blatantly been ignored. This was missed by our surveyors who compounded their fault by relying on the fictitious CE plate to give MCA approval!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone like a recommendation?????????????????
Given the structural problems with the vessel and a dearth of manufacturing information, it is not economical to get retrospective RCD approval or Coding. This is why the vessel is being broken up and these engines and drives are available. The vessel can not be sold or used because we are unable to provide a Declaration of Conformity as required by the RCD.

Ooooh fighting words Codders

My boat has a great hull too. Sh*te tubes, but a great hull

I love a big rolling swell with no wind, more fun than getting soaked all the time!

You mentioned that before and yet I can truthfully say I have never come even close to stuffing it. Now that's either down to the hull/tubes or my amazing driving skills - I modestly expect it's the former!!!

Just looking at a bow usually tells you all you need to know. Things like Humbers/Quinquaris and Deltas etc have very upswept bows and should be very good at avoiding a stuff - boats like Pascoe's or Revengers look quite prone to it though.

My 8.8m Prosport seems about the ideal compromise - a fairly full bow section with a slight sweep up at the nose.

As regards "that" survey I was advised not to make any comments on that a long time ago - apparently there is more to it than meets the eye. Remember most surveyors have their reputations to think of. Also what exactly do they mean by a transom failiure - it can't have failed that much or the engines would be in no fit state to sell.

I NOT trying to defend prosport - but I am pretty sure I have a good solid boat - it's just a crying shame that corners were cut on the final fitting out - little things that are easy enough to put right but you shouldn't have to!!!

Force 10

Hate to tell you Codders, another force 10 on its way to you tomorrow.
This will put your boat to the test, should do a few fliers then.

Was in USA last Week, they think all this is El Nino and not Global warming.
Mind you, they have admitted two weks ago that the Polar Bear may be in trouble......

The above is why it drives me mad that I try to be an honest businessman and pay a fortune to put my boats through the RCD whilst others in the UK and a considerable portion of Europe totally ignore the whole thing!

Tell me about it - whatever business we do in this country we are strangled by red tape. The EU brings in new laws and if the other states don't like them they just ignore them - what do we do? Throw a load of jobsworths at it to strangle us even more!!!

I remember a few years ago our glorious leader saying it was unfair on British business that other EU countries were ignoring the rules and that Britain would do the same. A few weeks later they announced they were launching a satellite
to spy on British farmers to make sure they didn't exceed their crop quotas!!!

ALL RIBs are the same - mine is probably better than most as I only have 1 engine and I specified the console be moved forward slightly to make the balance better.

Just because I am concerned about it doesn't mean there is a prob with my boat - in fact with 500L of fuel on board she feels pretty solid - even in a force 8 and big waves. I carry a heavy anchor and chain as far forward as possible but an extra 200kgs of water in a bow tank would give great peace of mind in extreme conditions.

Sounds good

Out of interest have you lined your anchor locker with something to absorb the impact of the anchor. I'ts probably me being a bit of a nonce but I think the anchor chipping away at the anchor lockers GRP is a worry.

By the way I know Dirk and don't you believe him when he says his Arse is a Banjo, It's more like a fkkn cello

Class!!!

Yes you are quite right about lining the anchor locker - don't want it to self launch through the bottom - I have used some thick rubber mats from Tesco - 99p each - really splashed out. the anchor hasn't moved an inch. I use a folding grapnel for day to day use - it's shit but is ok for a spot of fishing.
