Thanks Humper,
I may well just take you up on that offer mate! I emailed Liverpool powerboats last night but haven't heard back from them yet. I'll give them a call later.

After much thought I'm going to go for a 2 stroke. Where do you all buy your 2 stroke oil from?
I'm also trying to find prices on a courier to bring a motor from down south, but I'm not getting very far with that either. Any recommendations?

That suzuki 55hp really pulls my chain.

Something like this will do the job, available in most chandlers for around a fiver and should last you for around 2x 25l tankfulls at 50:1

oh and an SR4 will be fast as fek with a 55hp stroker!!

Try Palletline for moving the motor. They show £62.28 for moving a pallet from Portsmouth (po1) to Southport on economy service and £68 next day delivery via online quote.

Far cheaper buying it in 4 litre containers. The 1 litre bottle is handy to keep aboard though-or even a half litre coke bottle full as it means no measuring for a 25 litre container.

I got a good deal on a dealer rebuilt 90 st Yammy from the Glasgow dealer a couple of years ago and got it shipped the Scillies so keep your options open and look around. Distance is not a factor.

Where do you buy yours from then Matt?

I've only found it saves about a pound to buy the 4l container (example)

I like the tip about the coke bottle

The only time I've bought it a 1 litre bottle it was 7 quid-and 19 quid at the time for a 4l bottle. Not really looked at the price since then. I tend to use 2 litres a time so it's not worth it for me.

Sure, no problem. I'll check to make sure they're open on a Saturday morning.

Will let you know how we get on.

Yours

Just to let you know the sale fell through. I've seen a few seariders including the one Mike has posted about on here but right on cue the car I was going to use for towing has knackered up! Just waiting to find out how much to fix and see if it will be cheaper to fit a tow bar to my van or fix the car. Clucking bell!!!!!

Plenty of good advice. We've had a deluxe 4m searider for 20 years now - cracking boat and still gets used a lot. Just about to get it re-tubed and hopefully get another twenty years out of her! Originally we had a 40 hp two stroke yamaha on it, which was great, but when the time came for a new one we went for a honda 4 stroke.

It is a bit better on fuel, and quieter obviously and the added benefit of not having to add oil that often, but these are all minimal benefits. In my view a 40 is plenty powerful enough - one up and flat out you get a fair bit of chine wobble, and the only time i have ever really felt a bit more power would be good is if we have four adults in it, when it takes a bit to get on the plane (partly as i havent plugged the flooding hull)

I would def go for power tilt - means you can run the boat up the beach without having to run astern and leave the wheel.

good luck with it
