I must say that I doubt thats a like for like quote and if it is then just buy from the tube makers, however having watched the hours that go into fitting a tube its hardly a do it yourself at home job. You can buy paint for a car cheaper than a body shop can put it on but thats not the full story, the labour and skills is what you are really paying for.

Thanks though for the maths lesson prawn, I will goto work this morning a far more knowledgeable person after you words of wisdom.....

If you ever want tube or GRP work done on a Scorpion (or any other RIB for that matter) then speak to the guy who used to work there but is now freelance. I've forgotten his name at the moment!

qcamel what are you on mate? they are making more like 70% profit on everything, they are exact quotes:

hemsaws fitted

Price in 1200gsm Fabric £3975.00 ex works ex VAT

Price in 1500gsm Fabric £4450.00 ex works ex VAT

Scorpion

£14,637.55 ex works ex vat

scott does most of the fittings for the new scorpions as they are another couple of grand to have them fitted by scorpion, and yes he is a very good price and nice work. and i would always get them fitted by a pro or you will more then likely sink when the tubes you fitted over a few drinks start floating away.

only an idiot would get a new scorpion what a waste of money, you can pick one up a couple of years old and save half your money, exactly what Tony is doing. its not about scorpion its about my friend getting something else like the arctic blue.

i paid £22,000 for my scorp in the mid of winter

ok it had a over heating problem, i fixed by changing a £800 part so its like bying 3/4 of your boat not new seats seats. how arrogant!

Well clearly our views differ and that makes the human race stronger.

I would say however that if Scorpion charge that much more money than Henshaw then perhaps they are trying to avoid sales and associated hassle, they are after all a build builder rather than a parts retailer. GJ is a smart guy and would not price himself out of the market for no good reason, either the goods are differant or his does not want the buisness in my opinion.

The other point you make about being an idiot buying a new boat is a little flippant. I bought my last Scorpion 2nd hand in 2004, ran it for 24 months, did a round Britain and various other trips and lost £1000 on the resale, so buying second hand works for me. However my new Scorpion is ready next week and although I will lose more money on it I have loved the whole process of ordering the boat and spec.ing her to my desire, its a nice process to go through. Clearly not the cheapest route but that does not make me or other new boat buyers an idiot. After all if new boats were not bought then you would not be able to get your 2nd hand bargain and be happy with your great deal.

1 they should not sell you a rib at the cost that they do and then not want to do things like new tubes etc, if you had a merc like you put it and it needs a new spray job they dont say ok £30k please. don’t forget they are making money still.
2 i didn't say that all new rib buyers are idiots but i think the ones who buy scorpions or anything over £60k are mad. You are talking of an expensive bit of enjoyment just to order a rib, is it really worth an extra £40k depending on what model?
3 hensaws have been making tubes 3 times longer then scorpion has been building ribs so i think they know what they are doing and have a good indication to the right price.

Its good to have different views

After all if new boats were not bought then you would not be able to get your 2nd hand bargain and be happy with your great deal. thanks kepp buying them i am wrong

Scorpion

Dont think you can say people who buy expensive RIBS are stupid, We have brought 4 new scorpions over the years and dont think were stupid, some may say differently but think were normal, Depends on your situation I thinkm, If you can afford one then why not, you get a boat that you want which is built to your exact requirement and its a interesting process to go through.

I have dealt with Graham and Joy for many years and found the aftercare to be great.

Thats my thoughts anyway.

Julian

thats very interesting julian you think people who buy second hand dont have the money to buy new? well my friend you are truely mistaken its people who got handed money that dont mind throwing it away, people who have spent a life time earning their money tend not to like giving it away.

i guess its the same as i think your mad for buying new

however if you are happy then thats great but when you sold your ribs did you go home and think great i had a amazing time on that rib and i only lost £30-40k or do you think you got kicked in the teeth?

come on then tell us the depreciation on your 4 scorpions? bet you could have bought a house

Pop, I really think that you are starting to make this personal and your tone is pretty agressive. You have no idea how Julian makes his money or me for that matter and it is not the point of the discussion.

He is happy with his new boats and I am happy with mine. You are happy with yours so get over it

hey look i was talking about the acrtic blue and goldfish ribs and its been changed into scorpions as i think someone suggested my friend have a look at them. both of us have had scorpions and revengers and are not intreasted in them anymore as i stated i was not happy with their after sales neither was my friend. you are taking it personally because you are the mad man who paid way too much and when you sell it you will see but if you are so rich you have money coming out your ears then so what have a good time

"You have no idea how Julian makes his money or me for that matter" discussion.

i have no desire to know how you make your money but i know how you lose it

do you have any info on the above mentioned ribs
