Could be a dodgy relay.

could be wiring, bridge the little soleniods one at a time, if they work it may be wiring, have you a trim indicator on it, might be that

no trim indicator , or a irritant indicator it would be at max. Ill try that tomorrow see what happens. could low battery charge stop it from raising?

When you press the PTT button, you should hear the relay click into action. This should still happen with a relatively flat battery, which may not have enough energy to raise the outboard.

Just had exactly the same thing on my Mariner 50 4 stroke.
at first sometimes it would work, then it started hesitating, then stopped altogether.

As said above swap the relay's over if one is faulty the problem is reversed, ie wont go up instead of down.
new relay was about £15.00
good luck!

sounds like it could be the relay or try waggling the wires around whilst holding the trim button as it might be a dodgy connection somewhere which is intermitent.

Also check the earth - often a cause of random electrical problems.

Same thing happened on my merc a few weeks ago, I swopped the relays about and the situation was the same. I then took the remote commander PTT switch apart and it was a little corrosion inside the switch. Fortunately the switch is a master piece of simplicity and the insides were readily accessable, the corrosion was removed with wet and dry. When assembled it worked a treat.
