Glue on tubes

Not long got back from picking up the searider. Southport to Portsmouth and back in one day was a killer!!
Anyway, rib seems OK, few light scratches on the hull from what I can see. Engine ran great on the muffs. Tubes are OK too except it looks like it had the spray hood (?) and there is an out line of old glue where it used to be. Any advice for getting this off?

As a follow on from that thread, I do now wonder if acetone might have done the job - I didn't try it at the time. That stuff worked wonders though.

So that sticker removing stuff was ok on the tubes then Tim?

Mine had the same from sprayhood. The best would be to cover it with an stripe of hypalon. Looks best, because if you remove the glue, the surface was sanded before bonding nad you will see that anyway.

I'd never thought of that Mike. Does it stand out a mile that the tubes have been keyed once you've got the glue off? Only way around covering up that I can think of would be to make a nose cone cover out of Hyplon. But it would look abit daft wouldn't it?

Off topic for this thread but how do you secure the bolts for an A frame to the deck. Do you glass them in? And then attach the frame to the fixed bolt? Like you would use compound to set bolts in concrete when fitting machinery.

Usually the SR a frames bolt through the transom, at least mine and others ive seen do, I can tell you how the studs for the transom reinforcing bars are held down though as i have just refitted mine, perhaps you coild use the same fixings?

The stud is attached to a 1.5" square pad of perforated stainless which is epoxied to the wooden deck, this is covered with a piece of ply about 4"x2" epoxied over the top so the stud sticks through it, then a layer of mat and flowcoat over the top.

most of the raised platforms on a searider with a stud sticking out are like this, its bloody strong way of doing it!

Thanks DP, sounds a very solid way to do it. Not sure there's enough room in between the transom bars to fit a double tube Aframe now I've looked. So looks like a single tube U bolted through the transom?

Back on thread If it is just glue you want to remove, toluene is the stuff.

People have been banned on this site for mentioning that substance...does the job though!

TIDEL sell thinners mail order that will clean it up. Also try using a heat gun very gently and stroking it off with a scraper. (he key word being gently. I use my fingers but I'm quite thich skinned If you have roughed up tubes you'll be amazed at what a bit of 400 paper will do!

Simple 4m A frame get a bit of tube fabricated to the hoop of your choice and fit secure them with two of these bolted through the transom, put the lights/antenna/gps on a plug/socket and you have a removable A frameand. If you put two piars in line then you get a lot of rigidity

You could of course commision Martini to design and fabricate someting cos the mans an artisan but if I was that good I'd be pricey.
