Funny post because I was just having this conversation a couple days ago with a friend. I live in San Diego, CA about a block from the beach. We've had maybe 4 nice sunny days this whole summer. July was reported to be the coldest July since 1930. Having a hard time believing anything about Global Warming!

ANy way

I think theirs a lot of romantacism about weather .. eeee the summer of 76 et al

I agree it does go in cycles , were just going through a bad one ATM. Actually the last good summer I had was '04 cos I had 3 weeks of stunning weather which happened to coincided with my usual sojourne to the West Highlands So I remember that one well, but for sure it didnt have the consequences of 76

Infact .. the scaremongers were blabbing about a drought as early as May this year.. god knows what the'd be saying if they had to live through another 76

Despite the greater reporting of wild weather events, I dont think they are really any more unusual today, as to what they were years ago, its just that they get greater prominence due to our media

Oi

You're never going to contribute significantly to global warming merely by owning a rib. What you need is a coal-fired power station like Drax in North Yorkshire. It produces 4 terrawatts of power (7% of the entire national grid), consumes 36,000 tonnes of coal a day and is responsible for releasing over 22 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. Not bad for a steam engine.

No apples wasted (eaten) here. All fruit is commandeered for The Process

A strange year, great numbers of small apples, so easy into the crusher. Dunno what they'll do, cider wise. My drysuit is currently doing duty as a Scarecrow to keep the Jays and Magpies off. The wee scroats...

Ahhhh.. The summer of 76

Just a shame I was at school and couldn't afford a portion of scraps from the local chippy... Let alone a rib

I wonder just how good 76 REALLY was? Anyone got a nice graph of the temps that year to prove it?

And fingers and toes crossed for this coming weekend, might see some sun!

Well, I for one am heading to Inishtrahull tomorrow (again, fingers crossed).

I have a couple of old codgers OB who want to see the Island (one last/first time)

What can possibly go wrong?

Full Marks for paying attention

These pair are alive and kicking - so far anyway! The Dusters are on my Administrator's desk, causing no end of trouble. Apparently, it's Unreasonable to keep dead peeps in an admin office.

WTF? They're the most lively pair in there!

That's harsh

Meh (homemade) Larsen is currently doing service on a farm nearby, on account of how they have a "worser" problem and I've been eating their Chantrelles these last 10 years (very nice with a rare fillet and a bottle of Ch. Lagrange 1990)

BTW, I think that jays may be protected....

EDIT: (old boating gadge #2 is a primo magpie trapper and taught me all I know, so there's a coincidence...)

I read somewhere that the Azores high has got its self wedged much further south than normal, is this why we had such a cold winter ? or is it a system that affects only summer weather?

This is what powers the Toyota Pious of course and all the other non-recyclable smug-mobiles.

Here I set it for your area

It got yesterday fairly much bang on. Check out the wave and current maps in the Advanced Map tab.
