Getting an engine from Scotland to Southampton

Hi All,

I might be needing to get a 115hp 2 stroke Yamaha from Scotland (Gourock) to Southampton.

I am trying to find out the rough weight of the engine - don't know if anybody knows this offhand, and also any ideas who to use to bring it down here, and rough costs? I don't think I can drive to scotland as a time constraint, so would prefer if funds stretch to pay someone to do it for me. Who do people suggest for shipping outboards?

If anybody regularly does that trip, or is doing it in the near future and would like some help with petrol, please get in touch!

He's only bringing it from Scotland, not Spain, so it probably won't have the extra 9 ounces stashed under the cowl!

Can you get it put onto a pallet? That would probably be the cheapest option. PostVan www.postvan.com will do it for just over £100 plus VAT, but you might find a cheaper service elsewhere.

Is the garfish's figure on engine weight even close? Postvan do 2 services, up to 150kg, and up to 1200kg.

Should be around 158 but will tell you exactly on the build plate on the saddle.

Ok, so I get the up to 1200kg service. Postvan charge £87.50 + VAT for their 5 day service, £97.50 for their next day service. Sounds reasonable to me.

My only experience of Postvan was not a pleasant one and that was also for carriage from Scotland. I arranged for them to collect an Avon SIB for next day delivery, but after two days they hadn't even collected it - their customer service dept was virtually uncontactable, other than by e-mail and then the responses I got were meaningless - no aapology or explanation. I had to cancel the carriage and use parcel force, who provided excellent service for an extra £1.50 over Postvan!

Try AirSea Logistics in Andover 01264 351 351. Speak to Carl.

In the past I have paid around £40-50+vat for pallet (may have gone up by now). That's for at least 500Kg. Engine will need to be properly palletised though. Service I'd guess would be 2-3 days

Alternatively, www.parcel2go.com are £75+vat for 40x48" pallet up to 500Kg
