General question for all readers

Can you guys tell me weather ribbing is predominantly a Blokey thing our do many of you guys get out with the family or maybe just the wife? I just don't want to dash along with the missus for her to be out of place.

The first time I took the missus out in moderate conditions, she was terrified after 300 yards. Flat calm on a sunny day or a river cruise to York for lunch is a different story.

If your other half is used to fishing trips and other boating, she will be ok if it gets a bit lumpy. My wife had never been on a small fast boat of any kind and didn't know what to expect.

Only just bought rib and only done one run with other ribbers . My wife did power boat course with me and we did the nacho run with a friendly helpful lot . Think there were 16 ribs that day mainly blokes but not all . There were other women and some kids as well , we did it with our two teenage girls and did not feel out of place .

Most of my ribbing is done with my wife, son's family and grand children. Maybe a couple of weekends a year I will have 'boys only' trips. Very ocassionally I will go long trips on my own.

My wife loves going out in the Rib but it needs to be for a reason, this year we are planning Kinloch Castle on Rum, Eigg and Knoydart Music Festivals and possibly a run to Applecross for a bar lunch.

She's not up for rough weather/sea or just being out for the sake of being out.

She's asked for some appropriate clothing for going out so she's taking it more serious.

I think that you will find that most of us bring the wife and kids along while out ribbing my kids are grown up so its just the wife with me but we do have the occasional "lads camping, ribbing/sibbing trip trip" organised but even then you could bring the wife along for general cooking and washing up duties

The Mrs is fine when it's a 2 or a 3, any more and she's not so keen, child won't go over 10 knots since accident.

Applecross. Now there's a place. Is there still that wonderful bakery on the camp site?

Did fabulous bread in the morning and used the same ovens in the evening to produce a superb pizza.

We came from Poole harbour in our 26' cruiser, the swell was higher than the boat and the wife never flinched, just sat stroking the dog, she's either brave or not wired up right ..

I was at Applecross on a outward bound course when Elvis died, August/September '77, been back a few times since and stayed for 2weeks at that campsite

Funny that. The Leader of the Opposition sailed thousands of miles with me and never flinched but whenever I got into the tender and got it on the plane she'd wither me with a look that could kill...

Don't mention a couple of pillion-riding jet-ski experiences to her either.

In all seriousness, this season will be our first with the RIB and I expect she'll be very happy to join in unless it's seriously lumpy, or I persistently 'bounce' her out of the back seat. I expect the season to consist of a mixture of lads 'away-days' (weekends) and some more social excursions including Round Anglesey and Round IOW.

She'll do the IOM trip with me if it's settled.
