iv'e just bought a gath gedi made in Australia [plastic] more for warmth & the visor than head impact protection it states helmet should be replaced if there are any signs of damage proving you haven't damaged it very difficult.

They look good bit like a ski helmet might go down that route next time and hope they last more than a handful of outings 💪

On ERR two guys had £30 motor bike helmets and swore by them I thought about it but wasn't sure about getting them wet internally especially in a SIB worth looking into for you in a RIB behind a console though, loads on eBay starting at £15 if they only last a season might be an option

Cheers

Thing to be aware of is that a m/bike helmet can scoop the water during a high speed MOB and potentially cause serious neck injury. What Gecko (and I assume Gath) claim is that their chin strap is designed to fail in that circumstance so that the force on your neck is much reduced.
Now of course people don't fall overboard regularly. When they do fall it is often not at speed, and presumably even then only a fraction of those would be at the angle most likely to maximise scooping...

Looking at this gath although you have slots in it you have a, liner (foam) that seals it so as poly says scooping water will still happen the slots are for draining quickly it's tight fitting so max 1/2 ltrs of water in there and the strap is a plastic clip together buckle, scooping will minimal. The guys at ERR were on jockey seats so I would say the possibility of MOB feet first very remote and worth the risk IMO. But if on a budget and all you want like me is keep the head warm and a full face visor to stop the rain stinging, you could buy a cheap canoeing helmet buy a visor and bolt on that's all the gath is really.

Cheers

I get mbike helmets may scoop water but they are designed to protect your head hitting the ground. Water at speed is hard trust me I know. Hitting the ground off a motorbike could snap your neck

There is risk in everything.

Bottom line for me. Mbike helmets are warm, they are designed to manage high speed air, they are designed to protect your head, they come with flip visitors and so can be open face. They are cheap. One season £15 bin it get another.

They can get wet through and will dry, it's basically foam with some padding I wouldn't want it to land in the sea and then put it on, but a wave in the mush is totally fine try wearing one on a bike for 5 hours in torrential rain they keep your head dry

All imho and geckos have their place as do other products 😄👍 but the cost and comfort is hard to beat

Oh and they come in many colours lol

I agree not being a biker wasn't sure so went gath but re the scooping I started a thread some weeks ago sibling in brixham took some pics of lads not sure what it's called but shore hopping they were jumping a Good 15m in similar helmets to the gath and at that speed the water won't travel through the slots quick enough to prevent pull but they kept doing it so for me no probs being in a boat with the remote possibility of hitting the water at the wrong angle acceptable to me.

Same can be said for the motorcycle Jackets and pants "Got mine from Aldi"..... if they can keep you dry in the rain doing 70 mph on the motorway they are good enough for a boat imo

The real issue is not so much the Product...I've used them for years...but the lamentable customer service and Back up that Mick experienced...for something that in reality should have been a quick and easy fix.
