Gecko Helmets

With the years taking a toll on the eyesight and the need to wear glasses I was thinking a helmet could be the answer so I could wear my normal glasses under it, however I have a large head and am concerned about if the helmet would fit, is there anywhere in the south who sell them? So I could try on before I buy!

I find the inflatable ones to be tighter than the foam ones. Even with no air in it leaves a lovely imprint on my forehead!
I'm sure your friendly local Lifeboat Station would let you try one on?

You could try Gecko.
They are in "the South".
They will almost definately fit a large head and glasses.

I have a large head as well, and would agree that the current Gecko helmet (the mark 10 with the inflatable liner) is tight and not particularly comfortable for me. After as a little as an hour it is a relief to take it off.

Does anyone know the current cost? Or have a tidy second hand one?!

We have the older non inflatable bladder type ones which we find more comfy and allow more air around your head to breath, ie less sweaty.

We are based in Clanfield just North of Waterlooville if you'd like to come and try one on.

I even have some slightly tatty spare ones that we could come to an arrangement on. They are set up for goggles at the moment but the visors were available from Gecko last time I asked, all I'd need to do is add the press studs like I did for ours.

Might take you up on that Nasher, many thanks! Do you know any shops which sell them new? Around Southampton? From what I can see the only way is to buy one without even trying? Is this right??!

I've never seen them for sale off the shelf anywhere other than at the boat shows, Southampton, London etc.

and if you'd like to try the inflatable ones, I have a couple you could try both with full and half visors and a tinted one as well. I have also got a Gath helmet, but it's tight on a big headed person.

I've got a Mk10 one with inflatable liner. I have a big head and it fits me ok with a balaclava underneath for warmth. Speak to the guys at Gecko - they're really helpful.
