Fuel Tank Gasket

Does anybody have any experience with DIY gaskets?

I need to make a new gasket for an inspection hatch on a diesel tank and need to find a suitable material to use.

I know that card can be used for instance in ceretain applications but i need something that is 'diesel proof'.

Would rubber be any good or will this just rot? Maybe cork or will this break down?

Any ideas/suggestions appreciated.....

Thanks

Ring this bunch http://hermeticrubber.i12.com/Gaskets.htm and get a full sheet and then use the SS cap as a template, a ball bearing hammered gently into the bolt holes cuts a perfect round hole in the sheet. Des

You could Use a sutable sized 'O' ring .... when screwing down the Hatch cover it will form a good seal

gasket

Seb,
You could use cork with a small amount of RTV sealant.Dont use marine silicon sealants as they break down.
