FRENCH LEAVE

If anyone is interested in making a trip to France in the summer please drop me an E mail.

The plan would be to leave from The Nab Tower and go to Cherbourg or Barfleur which is about 66 miles. We would only go if the weather was very good and had at least a 12-hour window.

Our boat is a Ribcraft 5.85 with 115 hp based at Hayling. There are plenty of launch sites nearby .

I would expect other boats to have a minimum 5mts and be fitted with VHF & GPS .

Look forward to hearing from you

I'm up for that. Do you want to go for it in a day, or make a weekend of it?

Ashdell,

I could be interested too - 6.5m BWM DS 21 / 150hp Outboard with usual electronic wizardry onboard!

Let me know more details nearer the time.

Something that might interest you - do you know about BIBOA? BIBOA is the British Inflatable Boat Owners Association which is a fancy name for the British RIB club! We organise cruises and racing events throughout the year and around the country.

I've been a member for three years or so (John K is a member also) and this year have volunteered to help organise the 2001 Cruising programme. We are particularly keen to encourage newer (or brand new) members and smaller boats to get involved and will be running some specific events with this in mind including a training weekend, weekend cruise to Alderney, Weekends in the West Country and South Wales and much more. Interesting fact is that 75% of BIBOA members (according the register) have 6m or less boats. Its true that there are a number of extremely well equipped and larger RIBS who undertake quite challenging cruises but most of these folks started off with smaller RIBs and as I say most of the membership has boats around the size of your own.

We are generally a very down to earth and friendly bunch so if you'd like to know more then please email me or John.

My email is alan.winnett@virgin.net

Cheers,
Alan

Thank you John, I'll have to give that a try!

First committee meeting is the 15th and I will be raising the subject of websites and communications. Will keep you posted.

Are you going to the London Boat Show at any point?

Alan.
