Just booked for summer next year to stay in a cottage for a week in the centre of Fowey. But no room to store the car or boat outside

Anybody got any advice about availabilty of moorings / boat & trailer secure storage / or any other ideas as at this rate it will be a ribless holiday!

Looked at the slip by the car ferry last weekend when we were down there looks easy to launch off. Was nobody in the Habour masters office to question though.

any advice welcome - dont mind storing the boat on a farm etc and launching it every day.

Just come back from a holiday in Fowey, weather was great... You can hire a pontoon at Mixtow for I think £70 a week, but thats on the opposite side to Fowey. The Fowey visitor pontoon has a 2 hour limit for boats 4.5 m and above, but below that it seemed as if people had just left the boats there at will. Kept mine on the pontoon for about 6-7 hours without a prob even though its 4.8m.

You can leave the boat on the pontoon at Mixtow and store the trailer in the boat park. Not cheap though-cost me over £200 for 2 weeks on there including trailer storage. It'll cost you £5 a day on the ferry too and the ferry stops running around 9pm.

If you have a tender it may be worth putting the boat on the visitors moorings in Pont Pill. The charges are on the fowey harbour comissioners website.

Don't go to Fowey without the RIB. Fowey is boating heaven!

There are two visitor pontoons on the Fowey side of the estuary at 1 and 2 on the attached map. There is a two hour max stay on the outside of the pontoons, which you should try to observe because they can get busy and it's a real inconvenience when people hog them! Also there are always a couple of harbour patrol boats in operation and they can be a bit strict. Smaller boats can use the inside of the pontoons, but I am not sure what the limits are there (boats can definitely stay longer than 2 hours on the inside).

There are visitor moorings all over the place but they are always afloat, so you need a tender to get to them.

There is some sort of boat yard near 3 on the map, which may be an option, but I do not have any contact details. I'm sure Fowey Harbour Commissioners could advise.

Alternatively, about a mile up the road marked 4 is Penmarlam campsite, phone 01726 870088, which has a lane down to the Penmarlam Quay and pontoon. The quay is again run by the harbour commission but the campsite are agents, so you can pay for everything at the site office. It's a nice informal facility with a good slipway and space to park the car and trailer, but it does get busy in high season. Launch and car parking for a day is about £8, launch and car park with overnight boat storage on trailer is about £10 if they have space, or keeping the boat on the pontoon is about £20 per night. Only problem is you will need to take the car on the ferry across from Fowey (thats the dotted line on the map) to get to the campsite! The ferry is about £3 each way.

The slipway you looked at by the ferry and the one at Penmarlam are both usable at all states of tide.

When is your holiday? I'm down that way a lot in the Summer so might see you there

Just to avoid confusion, the pontoon at the Penmalam Quay is the Mixtow pontoon that Nos refers to above.

Down from 1/8 - 8/8/09 - The pontoon at the campsite looks the best option. Is the storage across their secure? My Rib is only 4.8M long! Might also look at the floating moorings and use the water taxi to get out.

Yes the Penmarlam Quay is pretty secure. The lane down from the campsite has a barrier which is coin/token operated. There are quite a few boats stored on trailers and there is an attendant on duty all day and into the evening. The pontoon area has CCTV and there are usually yachts berthed there with people sleeping on board. I have left my SIB and RIB there many times and no problems. There are toilets and showers and taps to hose the boat down too. And all very sheltered if the weather turns nasty. You'll like it.

They don't book ahead. Just turn up, launch and raft up.

Have not used 2ltrs all season!!! - see other thread new trailer only just arrived.
