Charles,
I used to do quite a bit of work in your neck of the woods a few years ago (more than a decade in fact) with the ski racing and local club racing, some of the best times of my life! Is Bob (the nob) Gallichan still around, boy were some stories about him a few years ago!

KarlT,

A friend of mine in st helier is computer mad and goes to all the computer fairs and bits and bobs jumbles. A couple of years ago (probably 10) he bought a secondhand hard drive at one of these. When he got it home and accessed it, it turned out to be from a computer belonging to a personnel company owned by a strange woman called "Sandy", who rented a house with BG, she was also a customer of mine with "Waterbird"(a ring 21 2x 275hp mod VP avgas race merc's, the previous owner of this boat was clocked at 103mph behind it in a ski race!, mad!) as she was a ski racer. Clearly, living with BG (merc agent for jersey) and having me look after her boat was no vote of confidence in BG. Anyway, I digress, this hard drive turned out to still have all sandys diarys on it, well I'm telling you, that fella's not quite the ticket! my pal kept faxing me all these pages and pages from said diary, I think it's safe to say he's a bit odd!

Good thinking Batman (Alan). Hey, you should do it in the same time with Blue Ice?
Jon, the least said about BG the better - trust me!
I prefer cruising to racing, more civilised and sociable, I could not afford it anyway Jon.
BTW - you seem to have come out of nowhere and are obviosly quite knowledgable about many things nautical. Why don't you get a decent boat (Rib) and join us on our cruises/ races whatever?

Fowey is a great little town, a definate to visit if down that way.

Cant tell distance, but at 15 - 20 knt Looe (also very nice) is about 1 hour.

Reasonable tides (though not Channel Island).

Watch out for the china clay ships, they just park in the middle of the river while you have a pint or two and its a surprise to find them there when rowing back to the visitors pontoon!!!

I'd like to attend but I'm meeting up with Rebecca in the Jamaica Inn and then going for a cruise up Frenchmans creek on that day.

Charles,
I will take your advice about mr G, i'm sure you have good reason for your comments!
I'm sure your being very modest when you say you couldn't afford to race, it's not for everyone and that's as good a reason as any!

With regards to getting a decent boat so that I might cruise/race with you chaps, I do wonder what atributes you think a rib might afford me that my boat does not? the 9.5 m twin O/B Scorpion you have, is in my opinion a quite superb offshore machine (but not because it's a rib) with similar qualities to mine (cabin), however, I look forward to cruising with you some time, at a hugely lower cost than yourself , when maybe you will see the qualities a boat like mine has

Regards JF
