fort william to oban.

I'm planning a run from fort william to oban and back. and I'm looking for advice on best slip to use in Fort william. corpach or the underwater centre? ideally one usable at all states of tide. Also has anyone tied up at the linnhe marina pontoons? their site states its ok in good weather I'm assuming this is for the yachts tho. i fancy stopping off midway for a pint and some grub at the old inn pub if its possible.

any advice appreciated

Is the underwater centre slip open? (I don't actually know if it was ever open to the public) but they went into administration recently.

Most of the Linnhe Marine pontoon gets dismantled and removed for winter, I'd guess it is "out" by now. A tiny section remains so that owners on moorings can access them by dinghy easily. The owner is however very friendly and approachable - his number is on their website and will most likely accomodate you if they can. Its a reasonable walk from the pontoon (at Lettershuna) to the old inn - perhaps 1/2 a mile? Don't rule out Port Appin a few miles further south for some excellent food, or Kentallan (check the tide for the harbour) as an alternative "midway" point.

Or keep going south to Easdale and then Oban becomes 1/2 way!

sounds good polly ill have a look at port appin. iv not been to the underwater centre slip i just seen the info on boat launch. i did hear they were shutting down tho, not sure if its happened already or not.

The pontoons at linnhe will be fine we tied our hard sports cruiser up there for a few hours a couple of years ago (38ft 8.5 tonnes)
Not sure on the charge tho as we were staying the night on one of the moorings

Another alternative is to head up to the Glencoe Boat club. If their pontoon is still out it's just a donation, bit of craic and your only a few hundred yards from "Craft and Things" that has a nice restaurant.

Thanks for the suggestions folks I’ll look into them. Not as easy this time of year when the most pontoons have been lifted out. However I’ll call round and see what’s on offer. The weathers looking no too bad for Sunday.

The pontoons at Linnhe Marine stay in all year round now so you shouldn't have any trouble there, they are only exposed to winds from the north and particularly northeasterly.

My wing man pulled out for that trip so never made it. Spent the day doing the trailer instead and found the axle more corroded than I thought it was. Then took it past the weigh bridge out of interest and it was 400kg over weight[emoji15]. So everything on hold u till I get a new trailer unfortunately

Money money money! New engine fitted now new trailer required wee bit of tube work and new a-frame. Be like a new boat in a few months. Should be faster too with such a light wallet [emoji23][emoji23]

aye i knew it was over but not 400kg. made the choice of fix up the trailer or buy a new one pretty easy
