wow dont think I could have lived in that company -ours is only a 4.5 Valiant.
We could have coped in Southampton Water but Launching/Recovery would definately been a problem at Calshot.
Will be in Chichester in two weeks time will try it out then- very frustrating!

Noddy I think you did right. We went to the slip at Calshot and it was blowing a right hooly. You would have needed drysuits and a couple of boat savvy people to sort yourself out there.

I also noticed that as soon as you go west of the slipway it shallows dramatically.

Did you see the rescue boys sat on the RIB 30 meters off the jetty waiting for business.

Having said that Southampton water was fine for any RIB just need to find somewhere with good landing for food and drink.

Anyone recomend somewhere for eats in Southampton water that is small boat friendly and doesn't incur a landing fee.

Down the hamble, there is Universal marina with a visitors pontoon and good food and drink (had breakfast there this a.m.!) . Further down at moodys you've got the "dog house" for food and drink and the jolly sailor pub opposite. All about 10-15 mins from soton water - 6 knots limit. - All the above are all states although the Jolly sailor may be a problem at low springs.

I was out and didn't get wet. I was on a 4.7 m2 Neil Pryde NR on my Goya Freewave 95 at Lee on the Solent and didn't see ANY ribs, jetskis or PWCs (or big smelly boats for that matter). Huge jumps, quick gybes and I f**king ache this morning and am sunburnt.

I don't know who got the 3-4 increasing and with rain forecast, every Sunday forecast I looked at was 20k +, 30k occasionally 35k gusts with cloud breaking in the afternoon. Bang on what we got.

Lostboy,

We were getting spray coming off the tops of waves as we left neared Bramble Bank in the centre of the Solent.

The waves seemed to be blowing up the Solent from the Yarmouth direction and dumping pretty dramatically where they seemed to meet the tide coming from the Portsmouth direction.

The spray was coming from the side of the boat as the wind blew it over who ever happened to be on the windward side.

No major masses of water in the boat just spray dousing us a bit.

Didnt see the rescue boys near the slip but didn't take a genius to see that a launch wasn't on. Really P*ssed off that we couldn't try the boat out as apparently, small as we are, Valiant 4.5's are quite seaworthy.
Did look out for you but not sure what you have got now?? Had "binns" at the ready from the Spinnacre Bar which overlooks the solent but only saw a yellow rib go past??
An hour each side of high tide and you can round the point past the slip and there is a small jetty where you can generally tie up and go for a drink and a really good cheap menu at The Spinnacre Bar which is in the main hanger at Calshot.
Camping site there too but there is a waiting list.

That was me. Called you on channel 77 for a while and chased all the Valiant type RIBs we saw but to no avail.
You would have certainly been okay in the Solent. A bit wet maybe and okay on your own. Southampton water was fine for playing in.
What time did you see us at ?

I reckon it was around 1.00pm. We walked to Ashlett Creek first of all hoping against hope that the wind would calm down. When we returned it was a damned sight worse so we had lunch in the Spinnacre Bar and left around 3.00pm. I did have a radio but its a bit sad carrying it in the bar?

That would have been us poking around Calshot on the Southampton side prior to going to Cowes.

Didn't expect you to carry the radio round on land but somebody was hailing Noddy on channel 77. Bit of a coincidence as it was obviously two yachties talking.

Thats why we thought we'd give you a shout.

We'll meet up some other time.

My you have come on since I sat on the front of that "little ole Avon" a couple of years ago all the way to the needles and got hassle off the missus when we were late back(by 3 hours-lol).
We will be down at Cobnor weekend after next. Try out in Chichester Harbour and launching is a doddle there. Then I've got to put away my toys for the winter - just moved house so have decorating and boring things like that to do.

Its a learning curve. Hope I'm nearing the top with regards the Solent and RIBs.

Benc,
Those seat backs make a big difference. Really keep you in place. I had them on Hot lemon as well.
Might have made a bit of an error buying the Scorpion though. I find out tomorrow if I have got to transfer with work to Australia so might be up for sale straight away. Will let you know!

Biggles,
I think that was me in the green scorpion that was coming up southampton water next to you. We were definately next to the boat criss crossing the wake from that sunseeker. You looked like you were having fun!
We were coming from cowes and did not get wet until we turned to have the wind on out port side. Then we got soaked. Well my passenge did...I was ok on the starboard side. Its all in the planning!

Cheers

Ozz
