Our deck it getting chipped, its non slip flow coat. We are going to retouch it with more flow/gel coat.

Does anyone use any form of protective matting, if so what sort?

If you do not have a tank rack (or other method of tying down dive gear), you not only need impact protection, but also some sort of non-slip surface to keep gear from sliding around (comes in handy when kitting up in rough water as well...)

Some people use rubber bar mats (relatively inexpensive, can be cut to fit, kind of heavy), foam garage padding (I'd worry about longevity), or stuff like DriDek (expensive, hard on bare feet, if that's an issue.)

Cheapest would probably be the sandpaper-like stick-on traction tape.

Top Tip, locate your nearest large farm / horse shop centre, you know the type of place the horsey and farm set go to get posh wellies and stuff for their horses, many of these stock large rubber mats about an inch thick, some solid and some with lots holes cut, they are cheap and I reckon you could cut to fit your deck easily and would offer good protection.

Inside my console where I store my twinset I use this matting: BERMUDA RUBBER HOLE MAT INDOOR OUTDOOR HEAVY DUTY DOOR MAT 40CM X 60CM - 01-171 | eBay

Its cheap and easy to cut to size.

I also lined my anchor box with it.

I got some " comfort mats" off a mate who has a machine shop. They put them down for the machinists to stand on to reduce fatigue. About 20mm thick & nice & soft to stand on. I paid about £25 quid each & 3 did the whole deck from the console to the transom. Makro get them in occasionally but they are slightly smaller & cost about £12

Despite having an ali RIB I use something similar. Works great, its fine on the occasional barefoot day and didn't break the bank. Has lasted 5+ yrs and still like new too.

A bread tray,for two sets of dive gear it works in my boat it is contained from moving about with the good old bungie cord and is easy to remove when not needed

Thanks for the bread tray explanation. Should have known I suppose (I'm old enough to still miss rotary dial phones.)

All the mats I've seen are similar to the bar mats I referenced, in different sorts of end uses.

One other thing to look for are the gel mats (usually sold for foot comfort) but they tend to be expensive. Lot lighter than the rubber mats though.

I'll check out the horse/cow matting and report back. The non slip floor as made by ribcraft is excellent for just feet or boots but is getting a bit of kicking from dive weights and cylinder being dragged about etc.

Jotun 2 part epoxy deck paint we but it on Dyna Mo Hum 5 years ago still immaculate and incrediblt tough
