I have the Series III Lightweight - which is great fun to drive and I wouldnt swap her for anything.
I have also had, over the years, the following Land Rover Vehicles:
Series III Lightweight
90 County Stationwagon
Range Rover Classic 3.9 V8 SE Vogue
Discovery (3 of - various Specs)
Range Rover (new Shape) DSE Auto
Freelander V6 Auto
As such I think I can say that the Freelander is as much a Landy as any of the others. She will cruise at whatever speed you choose - nicely on cruise control - just like a Range Rover or high Spec Disco - She will tow my 6.2 Metre RIB with ease up and down the motorway - yet she will also drag herself across Black Rock Sands, Off Road Tracks and up and down the steepest slipways - no mater how wet with seaweed etc - when many of the othe '4 x 4s' (excuse my language) have given up the ghost - just like a Series 3 or Defender (though obviously with SOME limitations)
In addition to this she will give your BMW 320 a serious run for her money away from the lights in 'Sports' mode.
My point is - hardly a 'tarts' car me thinks.
Landrover - the Best 4 x 4 BY FAR !!!
