Not exactly what your looking for but easy to do and less of a trip hazard

Not sure. There are several commercially available recessed eyes but the weight bearing mounting would require significant modifications to what I have now. Zodiac uses them now.

Heck I think I could just put a threaded insert in there and use screw in eyes.
