Flatacraft

We (Herne Bay sea cadets)have been given a Flatacraft force 5. Boat in good nick, trailer brill. Engine is cannon fodder(merc 50 blind bored and siezed solid) Whats the max engine / weight will it take as rating plate missing??
Has been converted to centre consul, dash and bow dodger removed at some stage.
Anyone got any views on these as all searches mainly mention force 4s
Thanks
Paul

RIBase
Might be worth looking for a replacement powerhead for the engine. I bought one last year for £30 and it can be changed in 2 hours.

Yep I could go down that route but as we have to have a prop guard I was thinking of going up to a 75.
Am going to pull down the powerhead tomorrow and see if i can free it up and what state the bores are in even if we only get 1 season out of it, it would give us time to get some doh together and get another lump.

Flatacraft are very good boats, had a couple of force 4's in my time and give them more stick than i would care to do nowadays with some ribs, its a shame Tony Lee Elliot isn't still making these boats they were one of the first if not the first rib on the market. Is the rib a 5.5 or a 5.8? the 5.5 should take up to about a 130 hp and the 5.8 will easily take a bit more, a 100 hp will do the job nicely on either though.http://www.hotribs.com/02articles/00...ows/01_pt3.asp

Tim,
Although its a force 5. I would say its a 5.8 or 6. will measure tomorrow. Interesting that the hull is based on a phantom 16 race boat

The first rib i ever owned was a small Flatacraft with a 15 hp on the back, i gave that boat so much abuse but never managed to break it.
