Fishing from a RIB

Hiya

I did a bit of handline fishing on my rib. Not a very clever thing to
do, but there was quite a bit of fish around!!!

Just looking for some ideas on what you guys use to protect
the pontoons. I'm sure that somebody must be pulling up lobster
trap/nets over the pontoons. Was looking at maybe a fibre-glass
section that clipped on the pontoon.

Nothing wrong with fishing from a RIB....just try not to catch a swordfish

If you do make sure it's a BLUNT one

We fish from ours at least once a week. We use boat rods so the hook never really goes near the tubes. Very nearly went to cut up a bit of bait on one of the tubes once in a moment of unthinking madness
Got a nice little fold up table specifically for that purpose now.

Regularly fish from the RIB between dives and normally keep a boat rod attached to the A frame. No problems so far as long as you show some care.

Rib fishing is big in Belgium and France where as our lot tend to use sports fishers which are very stable at rest but can give a hard ride out to the fishing grounds.

Thanx for the advice, but what i am looking for
is something to put OVER the pontoons. I seldom
use a rod, but rather use a handline. This gets
pulled OVER the pontoons, hence the question.

My boat is actually used to spearfish from. The
handlines always go with in case the vizability isn't
great. Takes up very little space.

You could use the new type of flat fenders that are shaped to fit the pontoons they are available up to 1000mm long x about 450mm. there is a thread on here you could search for.

Some time back there was a thread where someone was using foam sleeping mats as fenders. They should protect the tubes from lines and hooks. Dirt cheap from your local camping shop.
