Take them to Dorset smokehouse by bournemouth airport - they will take 24 mackerel and give you 12 smoked ones back I understand. Must be super fresh though.

You can pick them up for about 40 quid, that's just the first page I found with them on. We got ours from Nauticalia about 4 years ago & it's still going strong. Sausages are superb cooked in it We've done mackeral, salmon, oysters, mussels (stunning), sausages, duck breasts, chicken thighs etc etc, well recommended

I am watching with interest as I was a keen fisher for about ten years growing up in Portsmouth ( beach & pier mainly ). But want to get back to it from the boat (hence the fishfinder Alex )

I recall pulling several mackeral at a time from the entrance to the harbour and decent sized Pollock a couple ata time on lures.

I always seem to to forget to put the two small telescopic rods and bits on the boat and as space is a premium I cant really keep them on there...but I did buy a couple of new sets of feathers last week ...

Re the Lobster Pot .....GO FOR IT !! My father in law bought me one for my birthday and it was loads of fun. Baited it with a 2 day old pollock, dropped it for the first time, left it 24 hours, took all the kids out to pull the pot (felt like I was on "Worlds Deadliest Catch!!) pulled it up and ...........there was only a flippin lobster in it, together with two really big Spider crabs, kids went nuts !!
Second time out dropped it with fresh mackerel guts, heads and tails, pulled it the next day, two spider crabs, 5 massive doggies( wasnt expecting that !!) and a huge edible crab !!
I havnt blanked all summer and have dropped it 7 or 8 times, granted sometimes the crabs are a bit small and they go back in , but the excitement caused by having the pot, and not knowing what is coming up has been amazing, just hope we dont get a conger mixed up in it !! I would recomend it to anyone.

I do my fair share of smoking, dry curing and sausage making.

Im presently munching my way through some Breasola Venison Ham...TASTY!

I now have a decent smoker that I hot or cold smoke fish, sausages and venison but my first smoker was a three drawer filing cabinet, bottom drawer was the smoke box and I drilled large holes in the base of the middle and top drawer and they were used for hanging/lying the food in, I put a simple s/s chimney liner through the top of the cabinet to act as the flue, it worked perfect.

I grow/shoot/catch most of my food.

Good on yer I make my own sausage, just made a batch of Merguez (lamb & beef) & a very tasty pork & smoked bacon. We have a full size smoker that we keep in an old red phone box in the garden. I'm on with collecting the bits to build a new smoker out of Stainless steel.
