My sr5.4 flooding hull is blocked off and it rides fine. It moves a little more at rest than if it was open but no more than any other boat.
There's advantages to both and they are easy enough to block off. Just make sure you don't block it off permanently or you won't be able to drain out any water that gets in.

Let's put it this way-Avon haven't STOPPED using them in over 30 years and an awful lot of Seariders are used on oil rig support vessels.
