Finally Ready to hit the water!

After getting hold of a Searider last year and posting some pictures up on the forum, some work was needed over the winter.

The Boat was dropped off at a local GRP specialist at ABC Marine in Beaumaris to transform from this-

To This-

Seeing that I was starting at the bottom and working my way up, The trailer was the next job. Both bunks were so rotten i could flex them by hand -

25mm box section, a bagfull of self tappers and 2 cans of waxoyl and the bunks were done-

I gave the trailer an extra 2 sets of rollers and after a few practice runs on the garden, they should allow me to recover the boat from little/no water

The 40hp Mariner was running a bit rough but with a new Impeller, Gear Oil and seals, Anode, Fuel Pump, spark plugs and fresh Fuel its firing up and running well now.
One issue i had was my paranoia on an engine fail out at sea. So with a post on here and an Internet search on fitting an auxiliary with the moulded deck being in the way turning up a blank, I decided to fabricate something.
With some 45mm Aluminium box section, 20mm Nylon Strip, 4.5mm Polypropelene sheet, 316 A4 stainless bolts, nuts etc and some 45mm plastic end caps I got going. By using the existing holes used for mounting the fuel filter and the towing clip it fit nicely -

Now i needed to find an engine to mount on it!. Managed to find a decent tohatsu 3.5 locally which fits the bill -

Next up was the Deck area. Fuel Tank was initialy at the back but its now up front with the fuel line running through the console through a new fuel line, fuel bulb and fuel filter.

A bit more safety equipment -

And a new toy to help fishing and navigation -

And finally to keep it all cosy, a bargain at under £30 delivered from Evil Bay -

Many thanks to all that have posted in the past and through the search function I've picked up a lot of valuable information. Hopefully now I can contribute a little more since becoming a forum member and having some hands on work done.

With the Menai Straits less than 5 minutes drive from the house, I hope to get out before the end of the month to test my new setup

Nice work Shrimpy

But where does the paranoia of failing at sea come from?

Thanks.

Paranoia might be the wrong word?, doesnt come from experience.I just like to have a backup for what I can reasonably carry, Engine, Fuel, spark plugs, kill cord, fuel connections, bulb etc.

Cheers, well chuffed, doing the work and dodging the wind and rain was a bit of a pain. The cover came from Ebay and was the 14-16foot version. Having a massive tarpaulin over the whole thing and having to weigh it down and wedge it under the trailer wheels got me pi$$ed off in the end. For the price, the cover is a godsend, easy to throw on and good quality attatchments for the bungee's that I've used on them. Not % 100 waterproof, do get a tiny bit of water through the stitching , but should last a fair bit, is thin but strong with a good elasticated edge( would probably stay on without the bungee's)and if it doesnt, then for that price, I aint too bothered.

Havnt got a link (dont know how to) but just had a look now and they dont have the 14-16 ft covers on there at the moment, the 17-19ft is the only one I can find . If you put 'boat cover fletcher arrowstreak' into the search box you should spot it, guess you'll have to wait till the smaller one comes into stock.

P.s Ignore the fact its for that specific boat and it says in the description its not for console boats, ignore that too.

Not sure, have kept an eye on the thread, not confident in a lap of Anglesey yet and not having the fuel capacity I might do a part of the trip, drop off and do some fishing?

Welcome to the forum. Do you launch from bangor side in the old dickies area? Or are you based from ABC. Undoubtedly we will bump in to each other at some point. Didn't know ABC marine had a 'glass specialist. Or was it someone from gallows point?

We'll be launching there on the 18/19th for the round the trip to conwy. Just come across to there with us all then head back if you aren't confident. You don't need to come around the island.

Thanks for the welcome, I usually launch from 'porth y wrach' in Menai bridge when the council wardens are nowhere to be seen. Other than that I have a slip a few miles away thats free but a little tide reliant other than that, havnt launched that many times due to having a sib for a while which I could stick in the water at a lot if places. I see that your around here so will no doubt see you around at some point. I used the glass specialist that ABC use (GP mouldings in gallows), he's got 2 of the new units there.Very highly rated by them and so, very busy.

Still undecided about the 18th/19th.
